I agree with @enroe on the part of Obama being "half-cast". Obama is, by race, half-African, half-American for the reasons given by @enroe. However, technically, by citizenship, he is an American. But at heart, he is African. |

Re: Should Obama Be Considered African Or American? by bawomolo(m): 6:51am On Nov 13, 2008 |
obama is american with a kenyan father. the fact he was raised for the most part by his mother's side means he has little connection to his kenyan roots. |

Obama CHOSE the Black community on the South Side of Chicago. He CHOSE TO BE BLACK AMERICAN. He could have went the tiger woods route and chose all his races |

Now that Obama is more popular than Coke, I don't see those ethnic bigots, who relish denigrating African-Americans, calling him Akata! As far as those loons are concerned an Akata cannot be a high-achiever; maybe being the US president isn't a major accomplishment! |
Re: Should Obama Be Considered African Or American? by osisi6(f): 7:35pm On Nov 17, 2008 |
he has a direct African heritage.abeg don't call him akata. You'll make me mad |
Re: Should Obama Be Considered African Or American? by RichyBlacK(m): 8:40pm On Nov 17, 2008 |
*osisi: No problem. One question for you: Can you swear by everything you love and cherish on this earth that you have never referred to an American born of two Nigerian parents (who were born and raised in Nigeria) as an Akata? Thank you. |
Re: Should Obama Be Considered African Or American? by lucabrasi(m): 9:13pm On Nov 17, 2008 |
@post why should their be a distinction, because he has been elected as a president?? pls lets move on from all these obama african or american,as far as i am concerned obama is just another outstanding african american male who has broken a barrier same as i think of oprah winfrey and the african american inventors e.t.c only an individual or a group of people with sel esteem issues will see the need for obama to identify with their group as a pick me up,as far as i am concerned africans will still be hard working, resilient,go getters e.t.c with or without obama being african or being the president, especially as obama being president will not make any dramatic change that y'all are expecting, for instance theres no chance in hell that obama will make the agricultural rebate more fair or abolish it as what it is evil |

Now that an akata has been elected the president of the most popular superpower in the world, not by affirmative action but by merit, can Nigerians now conduct a free and fair election to elect a Nigerian (not a Martian, not an akata, not an oyibo, not a Chinese, not an Indian) as president? Bros, no be beans! All dis Naija pipo wey too dey make noise - "we are the best", "we are better than AAs", yadayadayada - solve una problem una no gree, na to dey yab anoda pipo una sabi do. Abeg make we hear word bo. |

Obama is African American. He is half Kenyan, half American. I could call him akata but then he is not a real akata because he is African |

Re: Should Obama Be Considered African Or American? by afroconi(m): 10:53pm On Nov 28, 2008 |
obama is an american he even acts like one, he was born there. i'm sure the father would claim american as well. When he was in the senate, he referrred to himself as barry, now is that African? okay lets even say he is african through his father. he is not black american and does not deserve that seat. the seat is for a black american and not a black african. HE IS NOT THE SON OF A SLAVE AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT KNOW HOW TO RUN THE STATES AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN, |
