Dengue Fever Kills Six And Infects Over 21,000 In China by Nobody: 3:08pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
A total of 21,527 cases of Dengue Fever, the mosquito-borne virus were reported across 20 cities in the province by midnight on Sunday, a startling increase from the 10,743 cases that made headlines on September 27. So far, six people are confirmed to have died from the disease. Officials in Guangzhou described containment of the disease as an "extremely challenging prevention effort," according to SCMP. Dengue Fever which is a tropical disease, is spread by mosquitoes, symptoms include high fever and severe joint pain. Chinese authorities have attributed the outbreak to high temperatures and wet weather, and increasing travel to dengue-prevalent places. The number of mosquitoes is also said to have increased five-fold. Companies and schools are now putting quarantine measures in place, and Guangzhou has launched a campaign to clean pooled water where mosquitos thrive. Around 80 percent of dengue cases in the country have been seen in Guangdong. Signs and symptoms of Dengue Fever: Typically, people infected with dengue virus are asymptomatic (80%) or only have mild symptoms such as an uncomplicated fever. Others have more severe illness (5%), and in a small proportion it is life-threatening. The incubation period (time between exposure and onset of symptoms) ranges from 3–14 days, but most often it is 4–7 days. Therefore, travelers returning from endemic areas are unlikely to have dengue if fever or other symptoms start more than 14 days after arriving home. Children often experience symptoms similar to those of the common cold and gastroenteritis (vomiting and diarrhea) and have a greater risk of severe complications, though initial symptoms are generally mild but include high fever. There is currently no vaccine available for dengue. |

INSTINCTS: Exactly my prayer. I think we should stop importation from China so that they don't export their vector mosquitoes into Nigeria |
