A 22-year-old man was shot in the head in the Roseland neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, one of at least 12 people, including a Chicago Police captain and at least six teens as young as 14 years old, shot in Chicago since Tuesday morning, police said.

The man was in the 10700 block of South Wentworth Avenue when he was shot about 12:10 p.m., said Police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The man was leaving a store when he was shot by at least one attacker, police said.

This evening, a Chicago Police captain was shot about 6 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Lowe Avenue when he and other officers tried to arrest a suspect in three shootings in Indianapolis. The 29-year veteran's condition had been stabilized Tuesday evening at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.

In other shootings:

In the Lawndale neighborhood about 9:12 p.m., two men were shot in the 1800 block of South Hamlin Avenue, said Police said Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney. A 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg. Both were in good condition at an area hospital.

Minutes earlier, about 9:07 p.m. in 8800 block of South Wabash Avenue in the West Chesterfield neighborhood, a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg, police said.

The man was driving down the block when a dark-colored vehicle pulled alongside his and opened fire, police said. The 21-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition stabilized, police said.

About 8:42 p.m., 14-year-old boy was shot in the ankle in the 1500 block of east 62nd Street in the Woodlawn neighborhood, Sweeney said. The boy was attacked in a possible drive-by shooting, and was in good condition at Comer Children's Hospital.

In the West Englewood neighborhood, a girl, believed to be age 16, was shot in the hip in the 7200 block of South Paulina Street about 7:48 p.m., police said. The girl was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was in good condition.

In Englewood, a boy in his mid-teens was shot in the 6500 block of South Stewart Avenue about 7:22 p.m. The boy was wounded in his back and leg and was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

About 6:45 p.m. in the Brighton Park neighborhood, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the arm and leg in the 4000 block of South California Avenue, Sweeney said. The boy's condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Also in Brighton Park, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm in the 2700 block of West 41st Street in the Brighton Park neighborhood about 6:25 p.m. The boy's condition was stabilized at an area hospital.

This afternoon, a 27-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Preliminary reports said the man was in the 3700 block of West North Avenue when he was shot by a passenger inside a car, said police.

The victim suffered a wound to his arm, but there were no other details available about the shooting.

Earlier, in the East Chatham neighborhood, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the hand in the 8300 block of South Ellis Avenue about 8 a.m., police said. He was in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital.

The boy was on the street when a dark-colored minivan pulled up and someone fired shots at the boy, hitting him, Pacheco said.
