Management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has officially published list of her newly elected Students Union Government (SUG) Executives for the 2014/2015 academic session.

As reported on FUTO website, a new set of executive to handle the affairs of the FUTO Students Union Government has been elected. It would be recalled that in compliance with the provisions of the constitution of the FUTO Students Union Government, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated a 7-member Independent Students Electoral Commission on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 to effectively flag off the process for the conduct of the election for the FUTO Students Union Government for the 2014/2015 session.

The Commission which is statutorily charged with the responsibility for the issuance of guidelines for the election, accreditation of eligible voters, conduct and supervision of the elections successfully conducted free, fair and credible election into the Students Union Government on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.

However, due to some hitches in the computer systems, a bye election was held on Friday, September 19, 2014 for position of the President and Secretary-General.

The following candidates emerged victorious from the election:

i. Mr David E. Onochie – President
ii. Miss Purity Chukwu – Vice-President
iii. Mr Uche P. Anselem – Secretary-General
iv. Mr Eva Osita – PRO
v. Mr Henry Nwadialor – Financial Secretary
vi. Mr Austin N. Chima – Director of Welfare
vii. Miss Frances Nriaka – Treasurer
viii. Mr Utonwa Ezeaku – Director of Socials
ix. Miss Jane Njoku – Assistant Secretary-General
x. Mr Lefty Fabian – Director of Sports

In his reaction to the election, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Dean and staff of the Students Affairs Unit as well as the Independent Students Electoral Commission for exhibiting a high sense of duty and responsibility in carrying out the assignment.

He noted that the new SUG executive is expected to support and implement the ideals of the culture of excellence.

The new SUG Executive will soon be inaugurated.
