BascoVanVeli: It gets very annoying when you see the Senate of France investigate its FA, call players for questioning. We watched the FBI arrest and investigate high ranking officials of FIFA and FIFA did not cough. If an African country tries this, you will get threats upon threats. 1 Like |

goldfish80: Kanu Nwankwo started out as a Midfielder. He scored 4goals at the FIFA U17 WC. He got converted to a striker, though more of a Supporting striker. Victor Ikpeba started as a winger/AM. He emerged one of our major goals scoring threats at the 1989 FIFA U17 WC.He became one of AS Monaco's most celebrated strikers Finidi George started as at right Winger but there was a point in time in the national team when that Right Wing role was given to Tijani Babangida and Finidi George played as a SS. Recall 2000 AFCON. Brown Ideye also did not start as an out and out striker. Even more recently Iheanacho. He started off as an attacking midfielder. Bc of his goals scoring prowess even as an AM he is now being drafted into the striking role. Etebo to me can fit into a "pseudo 9" position. Just like what Neymer, Messi and Suarez play in Barcelona. Aside Suarez who is a natural CF, Neymer and Messi are AMs. That is the angle from which I am seeing Etebo. A coach that knows how to effectively utilize such player would always play him in a more forward role than just a box to box mdfielder. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: Carlos Tevez comes to mind. With Etebor's energy and work rate, he can help press the defence of the opposing teams and be a nuisance to them. He can also drop deep to help build up play. I agree with Icon4s. He can fit the role perfectly. It still would take nurturing. Coaches like Villas-Boas and Mancini can do this. Same with Guardiola who likes trying his players in different positions. 2 Likes |

Swedish Coach wants Nigeria expelled from Olympics for unsportsmanlike behavior.... Swedish coach says Nigeria had added advantage by coming late for the olympics. He said Nigeria were allowed to play without accreditation and that usually accreditation takes a lot of time. His words: We have worked any amount of accreditation applications, document creation and other time-consuming. Things that have taken time from the players' preparations. And then Nigeria pops up just before its opening match and not at all four days before the first game, as the rules require, says Ericson Swedish Radio. Icon4s: I get your point, but a player like Etebo's stuck in trade is the knack to arrive at the box late. Almost undetected by defenders as their attention would be trying to stop the opposing striker. This is the type of situation Etebo trives in. That false number 9 tactics has died a natural death. Barcelona and the Spanish national team who introduced this style have phased it out. With the emergence of Suarez and Moratta. Playing someone like Etebo as a pseudo 9 would be suicidal in this modern game because his hold up play is less than average. You have to consider his stature too.. He would be easily picked put by defenses because he has to play directly in front of them. If he looses that knack of arriving at the box late. He will be pretty easy to schakle. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: The reason Siasia refused to call Awaziem till today baffles me, tbaba shey you where supporting mikel how come you want him dragged to the center back... the last match we played a 4 -1-4-1, crowding the midfield, or let me say choked the midfield and also playing with pressure ... The defence line is good they need more understanding and the should clear the ball when needed I enjoy pep like defenders whom are good on the ball but sometimes using the old method of shooting the ball to the opponents half is sometimes better, japan got a penalty because our defenders wanted to play from the back instead of clearing the ball not that it's a bad idea but as a defender they should know when to clear and when to pass out... As for Mikel he shouldn't be starting the game he should be brought on in the second half to calm down the match or used in CDM with Azubuike, both can decide who to join the attack when going forward ... to be sincere i like their pressing game you see the way they press for the ball when japan has got it the japanese couldnt play their free flowing football... Aminu Umar is yet to be in camp so we hope he would be in camp before their next match .. and we all know what an hard worker Aminu Umar is ?? So we expect a much more better side and I want to see Saliu play more that guy is a one of a kind player you see the way the fans cheered anytime he got the ball... Amuzie I think have lost that position to Madu but he's height is an advantage when going for corners, let's nor forget that he's a Siasia boy and I would say hes the tallest full backs have seen most full backs are generally not that tall... Siasia even dropped Barcelona Ekpolo Godswill and that guy is another very good CB, him and Ekong would have been lovely anyways Sincere Seth is very fast and agile they just need to communicate more the second goal the japanese scored was because shehu kept the striker on side ... The game was full of ridiculous defending and I feel Popoolo would have been introduce after the last goal mikel was already tired... so with aminu Umar I think the game would be better against Sweden ... here's my lineup ... we should employ a 4- 2-3-1.. GK Akpeyi Defence Shehu Ekong Seth Madu -> let's see what he can do if he's better than Amu Mildfield Azubuike- CDM Usman / Mikel -CDM Aminu -Left Imoh-Right Etebo -CAM STRIKER SADIQ UMAR... Etebo was playing from the right wing but we all know he's a CM or CAM if Aminu comes to camp Mikel would likely drop back .... |

adrainuche: The first goal, He lost the ball twice within a few seconds. The second goal, the runner was just beside him and if he was a little more alert, could have cut off the pass. Shehu played the man onside too. He was marking the guy on the last goal and should have been tighter to prevent him from getting an easy shot. |

tbaba1234: Etebo reminds me of a barca player but his name is Luis Enrique. He is a goal poaching midfielder, always at the right place at the right time. Lampard is another name that comes to mind but Etebo rarely forces it. |

goldfish80: First of all, the false 9 is not dead. It depends on the coach. You make it look as if the False 9 rises and sets in Spain and Barcelona. Guardiola played the false 9 many times last season using Thomas Muller in that role. He excelled and won a lot of games. Second, Suarez is a false 9 player but Enrique is an attacking possessive coach and prefers his forwards closer to the goal. Messi played the false 9 the way we know it because he was in a compact system of Guardiola. In early January, Brendan Rodgers likened Luis Suárez to Lionel Messi.“He plays the false nine role like Messi does for Barcelona where he moves freely and others have to get in behind him to penetrate,” he said. Though diminished slightly by Daniel Sturridge’s arrival, Rodgers’s point did highlight one thing: for all the talk of the ‘false nine’ role, only Messi and Suárez are capable of pulling it off. http://www.haugstadfootball.net/2013/02/17/messi-and-suarez-the-false-couple/ Saying Etebor can not cope upfront does not add because there are many midfielders converted to forwards who excelled. Notably the Argentines like Messi, Aguero, Tevez etc. These men are smaller in stature than Etebor but they shone bright as forwards. The false 9 is not dead in the modern, game not at all. This year, Neymar played the false 9 in games for Brazil and did well. Pellegrini played Kevin De Bruyne in the false 9 position and he did well. Two seasons ago, Pellegrini played Milner in the false 9 role and he did well. If others can cope, there is no way Etebor can't. Many said Iheanacho will not suit an attacking role but today, I doubt the points people raised to defend that statement stands. As long as you can play in the midfield and you can finish, you can play as a forward. It is just the approach that is different. Aguero attacks differently from Dzeko but yes are both forwards. Etebor plays the midfield well and he can finish. His stats shows he can finish. I remember having arguments that CR7 can not play as a striker and at the Euros, he played there and did well. I remember arguments of people saying Nani can not play as a forward. He does not have the stature. He does not fit. At the Euros, he did well. |

adrainuche: Moving players close to the goal improves them. That was what Alex Ferguson did with CR7. Villas-Boas did the same with Hulk. Hulk turned into a weapon at FC Porto. Villas-Boas moved Bale to a forward Role at Tottenham and he shone. Moving Etebor forward will improve him. |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by goldfish80(m): 10:32pm On Aug 06, 2016 |
thegoodjoehunt3: Muller playing as no9 does not count as playing false 9, he is a proper striker please. A false 9 basically is a midfielder/striker. The idea behind it all is the player exists solely as a midfielder who operates without a striker in front of him. Fabregas executed this role for both barca and Spain and he did this solely because David Villa and Torres where injured. I think the idea of playing a false 9 is basically out of necessity. As things stand now, that idea has been dropped by Barcelona and Spain because 1) teams have learnt how to play against oppositions who set up like that and 2) the emergence of Morata and Suarez. Suarez has never been a false 9 like you mentioned, from his days at Ajax to Liverpool, Barcelona and Uruguay,he has played as the top 9. Both Forlan and Cavani drop to he midfield and wings respectively to allow him lead the line. In my opinion, the player Etebo reminds me of is a young Alex Vidal. He can plays as a CAM and as a Right winger, just like Etebo. Although his hard and relentless pressing style is what I would love Etebo to pick-up. His knack for arriving late into the box and finishing is already natural. By the way, Ronaldo had a very average tournament at the Euros. His stats where pretty basic. Apart from the game against Hungary, he was very ordinary in the rest of the tournament. 3 Likes |

thegoodjoehunt3: Most coaches train wingers to become strikers as they develop. Thierry Henry and Robin Van persie started out as wingers until wenger converted them into strikers with success. he wanted to do same thing with Walcott but it's not clearly not working. Another player mooted to end up as a striker is Julian Draxler. His career trajectory is pointing towards that. His physic gives him a shout for this role in future. Even, Hulk you mentioned was a winger at Fc Porto while Lisandro Lopez /Falcao lead the line. It's academic converting a winger to a striker than a midfielder to striker. 1 Like |

Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by goldfish80(m): 11:10pm On Aug 06, 2016 |
thegoodjoehunt3: Tevez was never a creative midfielder. I saw him captain Corinthians and lead the lines before Westham pulled a coup. He used to wear a choice hairstyle when at Corinthians. Aguero played as a point man at the U20 world cup in Holland 05. Although he was largely a bench warmer. In 2007 WYC he featured, and won player of the tournament/top goal scorer as a striker. The closest attempt to convert a midfielder to a striker has been Mario Goetze. The experiment has failed woefully so far. I wouldn't rule out his diminutive stature to be a factor |
