thegoodjoehunt3:when i said he put his neck on the line, i wasn't talking in terms of the coach, i meant it in terms of some players generally. Not even the U23 team specifically, but the general manner with which he defends his decision even when the majority are against him Just so y'all can stop misinterpreting me. Good morning 1 Like |

RIO 2016: NIGERIA AVOID BRAZIL, BUT FACE 'NEMESIS' DENMARK Nigeria have avoided hosts Brazil, but will come up against Denmark, who spanked them 6-2 in a recent friendly, for a place in the last four of Rio 2016 Olympics at the weekend. READ: Nigeria slump but still advance to quarterfinal Home team Brazil finally turned on the style to trounce Denmark 4-0 in a final group game to finish top of Group A with five points. They will now face fellow South Americans Colombia, who stunned Nigeria 2-0 in a final Group B match in Sao Paulo. Nigeria won the group on six points to now take on Denmark Saturday night in Salvador. Confidence will now be in short supply in coach Samson Siasia’s team after the way and manner they lost to Colombia and this will most certainly not be helped by the fact that in June they fell badly to the Danes 6-2 at the Suwon international Tournament in South Korea. The argument though will be that the team to Korea were largely experimental and only a handful of them made it to Brazil. Also, the stakes are a lot higher at Rio Olympics because victory at the weekend will catapult them into the medal zone of the summer games, where they will battle the winners of the quarterfinal between Portugal and Germany. It would also be recalled that another rampant Danish side had dismissed the Super Eagles 4-1 on a most forgettable day at the 1998 World Cup in France. In other quarterfinals, Portugal battle Germany in Brasilia and Korea Republic take on surprise team Honduras in Belo Horizonte. http://africanfootball.com/news/636916/Rio-2016-Nigeria-avoid-Brazil-but-face-Nemesis-Denmark 1 Like |

Mickael2: I am not a Coach Siasia supporter like a #TeamNacho. I just defended him that the squad was selected based on those he trust and believing in. Instead of relying on Monetary returns. That was my stance since the AFCON qualifiers. I wanted us to retain Coach Siasia to promote continuity. Not that I am a strong Coach Siasia fan. I had problems with Coach Siasia's options during the end of the season. I expected him to camp players like Osede, Sadiq Umar, Chidi Nwakali, Blessing Eleke, Godwin Obaje, Success, Nacho, Ndidi etc before leaving for the Suwon Tourney. I did not see that. It was clear Coach Siasia already made up his mind without screening for the best U23 players in each position. To cap it up, Coach Siasia said he did not know Osede. That meant he did not look. He did not check for the best and headed to South Korea without his best. I could not defend a bias selection of the squad and jetted out with my Plank. Fortunately, the Danes kpracked him before I reached the stadium. So I was not a Coach Siasia supporter but I was defending his choices, expecting him to do a proper screening before the Olympics camp. |

kobonaire: I agree with you. I do not think this is the time to face them. The crowd is intimidating. As for the Danes, we need caution. Those guys have a history of reading weaknesses in teams. So let us not write them off or overestimate ourselves. We have a weakness behind. When our wing backs overlap and our midfield presses, there is too much room for a good tactical side to convert into goal scoring opportunities. We should not attack blindly. I expect Mikel who has enough tactical exposure to these situations to discuss this with the coach. Chelsea are noted for taking advantage of attacking weaknesses in teams. The tourney is a big deal for Mikel and I know he sees the weakness in our defensive set up. We need more organization in our attacking set up. If not, I am afraid we would get spanked. I still opt for two defensive midfielders. When our wing backs push forward, Azubuike and Mikel should fill the holes created. 3 Likes 1 Share |

thegoodjoehunt3: forgiveness: Oasis007: forgiveness: Where did you see me mention Siasia in my conversation with him? If I never supported Siasia why did I pour my heart on this thread? Unlike the U20 thread I deserted as soon as Emmanuel Amuneke was named the coach. Some called for him to retain his Super Eagles job but I stood against it. Yes! I stood against it live and direct. Why? Because of his biased list. Chikena! And that was after the qualifiers and the Africa U23 tournament. It is a free world afterall, believe whatever you want to believe. |

forgiveness: The topic Oasis007 talked about is people believing in Coach Siasia. That was the topic of his post. He mentioned me and you. His point was, you believed the team (Siasia's selection and called you a bigot) for supporting the team. That was the point. Siasia. Not players. If we even talk players, I was one of those who said Sadiq Umar should lead the line if he does well on training. This is not due to Siasia. Forgiveness was tagged a tribal Bigot because of his stance! He believes every Player should be given a fair chance, but some Dudes believe without Iheanacho, Iwobi and Co the Team is a complete right off! What stance? Is there anyone among us who did not call for a fair chance? What Oasis007 meant was that you believed the team will do well without The Popular demands unlike others who lost faith because of the lack of these players. You said spot on. That assessment is not true because you were one of those who wrote off Coach Siasia and in turn, the team. 1 Like |

forgiveness: Simple, unlike most of the regulars on this thread, you are one of those with the least faith in our local coaches. Whether Coach Siasia, Keshi or Amunike. So, to make it clear, you were not behind Coach Siasia before the kick off of this tourney. Most here had more faith in Coach Siasia than you. 1 Like |

Last night was my first time of watching d team play live. From what I saw... D team lacks coordination. Though t might seem hard to admit. Mikel n Ekong were d only players above average last night. Akpeyi's decision making was poor. Our full backs were just not there lastnight especially dat madu guy that played 3 made poor crossing, he doesn't even tracks back after overlapping. Azu n Popoola couldn't initiate any attack. No need to talk about Aminu. How he was picked ahead of Nacho @alexandra is still not clear to me. Sadiq(the tallest) was not in d game at all. Dispossed n falls easily and lacks pace . I think we should need him only for ariel ball. He'll need to work on his stamina If he wants to make t to the super eagles. Sir TheGoodJoe has said t all on our defence. Siasia should fix t. A very good pacey attacking side will only hit us on counter knowing fully well that ALL our defenders are slow. Wishing Etebo quick recovery. |

thegoodjoehunt3: He is not the better crosser he made one cross. The goals came on counter attack, like i said the blame is on the careless loss of ball. I was actually happy with our defenders. |

thegoodjoehunt3: I am particularly the one with no faith in Keshi and Amunike(until he proves me wrong). Gbam! Confirm! Of course, nobody had faith on coach Siasia on these thread the last time I checked. Including ya humble self na hence the plank....... As for Siasia, I made myself cleared enough. |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by thegoodjoehunt3(m): 10:08am On Aug 11, 2016 |
AIG07: Precise. I think the full back shuffle affected the team. The attacking systems rely a lot on the full backs and Coach Siasia's orientation of the attacking play is archaic. He needs to study more of Antonio Conte who plays the attacking game but is astute defending. To highlight this. Antonio Conte is an attacking coach who won numerous titles with Juventus. He sets up his team to play a 3-5-2 when he had the ball. The team's defence centered around three defenders. ........Barzagli.......Bonucci......Chiellini....... When Juventus lost the ball while attacking, Juventus always had three men behind the ball. Then with Lichtsteiner and Asamoah playing as Right and Left wing backs to support the attack and defence. They formed a 5-3-2 when they were not in possession with: ..........Barzagli....Bonucci.......Chiellini.... ..Lichtsteiner.....................................Asamoah... ................................Pirlo....................................... ***** So when we attack, it is risky having Azubuike far from the defence and two men behind the ball. Two defending men is not enough. Coach Siasia should adapt and make Azubuike stick closer to the defence. Mikel should drop deeper to play more like a deep lying playmaker, giving Etebo and Usman freedom to attack at will. Etebo and Usman will also help in tracking back like Vidal and Pogba used to do under Conte. The Right and left back will play their usual roles. This would limit the gaps we create when we attack. Suggested line up and set up: ......................................Daniel(GK) ........................Ekong(CB)............Seth(CB) .....Shehu(RB)................................................Amuzie(LB) ............................................Azubuike(DMF) .............................................Mikel(CMF) ........................Etebo(AMF).............................Usman(AMF) ..............................................Imoh(SS) ...............................................Sadiq Umar(CF) Azubuike should stay deep the cover the holes created by the overlapping backs. With that, I feel we will cope against the tactical play of the Danes. |

AIG07: The team I saw against SWeden is a strong team . , the best match you can use in judging that team is the one against Sweden , against japan , the excuse was jetlag , and I can agree to that 100% and for the one against Columbia , that match was inconsequential , Let's wait for the Denmark match , and see the, in their best . I wish Etebo a quick recovery , I ve not really seen the best of Ezekiel imoh , he's d most experience in the attacking line and he can be very deadly to the Danish defense . |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by thegoodjoehunt3(m): 10:27am On Aug 11, 2016 |
forgiveness: My point is simple. You do not believe in Siasia and never believed. His point was that you believed in the team. The context of the message was the team, not the players. |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by thegoodjoehunt3(m): 10:31am On Aug 11, 2016 |
lexyman: My problem with the Sweden game was that the Swedes did not come to attack us. I think they wanted a draw and it back fired. We did not have our defence tested enough. I do not think we should judge the team with the Swedes game because we suspected the defence all along. Although the poor performances of the Full back makes the Colombian game not much relevant. 1 Like |

forgiveness: Icon4s stance has not changed. He believes in tested and experienced players on the highest stages. It is a thing of preference. Not right or wrong. Just as he was against Awo going to this competition. If Sadiq performs well here, he would accept him on the big stage. Icon4s believes in proven experienced players. He did not say Sadiq is not good enough but is he ready for the big stage? Sadiq Umar confirmed that he played with fear in the previous two games. That highlighted Icon4s point. |

Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by lexyman(m): 10:56am On Aug 11, 2016 |
thegoodjoehunt3: If you have been following this competition , the swedes played more of tactical game , basically counter attack, against Columbia they played same way and , it ended 2:2 against dream team , they played thesame style , but it yielded no result , cos our midfield was better , . They couldn't put up any better transitional play , In that match we are the better team side cos of our midfield coordination , , and error Free abilities of every individual ,don't forget their keeper was more than excellent that day , he saved the day , the score line would have been. 4 or 5 goals . if we put on that same style . Denmark , will find it difficult against us . |

forgiveness: Iheanacho, Success and Ndidi were experienced for the Olympics. Success and Ndidi were regular for their clubs and Iheanacho was a regular for City towards the end of the season. Got his chance against Real Madrid. That is why Icon4s rooted for their additions. He is someone I have followed his views of the game. He has a different view from me. I rooted for Sadiq Umar's inclusion despite him not having enough experience. Icon4s has a different view from that. Just as I rooted for Iheanacho's addition to the Super Eagles before he got his break at City. I just pointed out Icon4s always maintained his stance. 1 Like |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by thegoodjoehunt3(m): 12:34pm On Aug 11, 2016 |
lexyman: It is a case of contrasting styles. Our style does well against a style that sits deep. Unlike Japan and Colombia who added more attacking influence to their styles. We do not expect Denmark to sit deep waiting to counter. That is not their precise characteristics. For a side who put six past the Dream Team in South Korea, we can not expect them to just sit back and wait for a precise time to counter. Unlike Brazil who attack with less holes in their set up, our team has lots of Gaps for the Danes to exploit. We can not count on walking over the Danes. We should focus more on correcting the weaknesses. |

TheGoodJoe:https://www.nairaland.com/1952331/all-news-olympic-eagles-u-23/282#47305586 I have always maintained "You are Old Enough If You Are Good Enough." Icon4s maintains. "You Are Good and Old Enough After You Have Proven It." Sadiq Umar proved with his two performances that he was good enough but, his complaints of fear during both games confirmed Icon4s fears. As I said different opinions. |
