Without the Lebanese guy Eko Atlantic wouldn't happen.

Without foreigners, 95% of the little (by world standard) development in Nigeria wouldn't be there.
Your entire oil industry was developed by foreigners. FACT
I do admit that foreigners invested in part of our industries, but saying it in entirety is ignorant! nigerians (blacks) developed their financial industry for instance, world class banks with branches in more than 10 countries including Europe . what about that? we own telecommunications companies (blacks) ... what about that? the biggest SME market on the continent, what about that? shall I provide proof?

South Africa, unlike other African countries, has focused intensely on improving the life of its poor citizens, President Jacob Zuma said on Sunday.

"What is it that causes protests and demonstrations in South Africa when the rest of Africa is not doing it? Once the countries were free, it was each one for themselves. There were no programs to deal with poor people," said Zuma in Pretoria.

"If I am wrong, come and tell me which country did as we did. Once we were free we said our major focus is to address the plight of the poor. In no country in the world have you seen government giving people houses free of charge because they are poor."

Zuma said that since 1994, government had immensely improved the lives of citizens.

"There was no one who was talking about electricity in the rural areas before 1994. It was not an issue and there were no protests for that. No one was saying 'take services to the people'."

Due to the extensive roll-out of services after 1994, South Africans had become dependent on the state.

"The reality you can't find protests in other places is that there is no hope. When foreigners come to South Africa, because they are not used to government handing [out] things, they get here and see opportunities and thrive," said Zuma.

"Our people are waiting for government. Our people are not used to standing up and doing things. These ones [foreigners] are not expecting any government to do anything so they get here, see opportunities and exploit them. They have taken over your small businesses."

If he were a journalist, he would write to South Africans to say "wake up".

Zuma was speaking at the commemoration of 'Black Wednesday' and 20 years of media freedom in South Africa.

On Wednesday, October 19, 1977, the apartheid regime clamped down on the media, banning two newspapers — The World and the Weekend World. The editor and other journalists who stood up against the apartheid regime were arrested. This day became known as 'Black Wednesday'.

"The reflection about the painful episodes that shaped our history in the long stretch of our journey to freedom is impossible to avoid. This year, we remember these episodes more, given that we are marking 20 years since the attainment of freedom and democracy in our country," said Zuma.

Zuma also announced the establishment of a presidential communication and media working group to provide a platform for the sharing of ideas between government and media.

"There is a lot we can discuss, from media diversity and transformation to how the media industry can contribute to the attainment of the five percent growth target by 2019," Zuma said in a speech prepared for delivery in Pretoria.

"In this landmark year of 20 years of freedom, let us re-dedicate ourselves to working together to promote the right of the public to information."

irrespective of political career and ambitions, a leader is expected to speak the harsh tricep sometimes. This is what people don't want to hear but if its the reality on ground then why not work towards changing it.

With the oil money, and long period of peace (compared to other African countries), hasn't Nigeria been under performing?

Look at how much Angola has achieved in the ten years they've been peaceful with their oil money.l

Southern Nigeria will be better off without the North, in fact, Biafra would've been a great country.

These are the two most developed States, and the Lebanese have contributed far more than the native Nigerians into making them great. Their real wealth is hidden, I heard that the guy behind EKO Atlantic is richer than Dengote.

But the Northerners and Westerners have been marginalising the SE and SS, don't northerners and westerners own most of the oil blocks in Delta region, they've used the Biafran oil to develop their own region.

But why aren't there Billionares from the East, all the billionares are are northerners and westerners, the richest black woman in the world got rich from Niger Delta oil, she was given an oil block for free by Sani Abacha, that money clearly belongs to a Niger Deltan. The people from SE and SS are clearly second class citizens in Nigeria. They are also the most hardworking and intelligent, which is why they lead in the WAEC.

Ignorance is bliss.

Afrikaners where generally poor peasants who where considered inferior by the British.(Boer means farmer). Their emergence was only in 1948 when they got hold of the government from the Brits. That's when they began to implement their own form of Afrikaner empowerment which was spearheaded by the Afrikaner broederbond. They flushed out all the Brits from the government and replaced them with Afrikaners, they used government money to finance Afrikaner owned companies which are now very big in SA. They also implemented apartheid because they feared that blacks would interfere with their empowerment.

I can go on and on about how Afrikaners empowered themselves using government resources. But what's safe to conclude is that the boer(farmer) was a second class citizen until 1948.

the argument is not about the poor boers but the people that developed SA. the grand decision makers, the investors etc... 98% of all was in place pre-94

not sure if you understand the meaning of a second class citizen. . one of nigeria's biggest bank was the idea of someone from the south. Africa's first black auto maker innoson motors is from the south, a lot have billions worth of investments in the west .. I don't get what you mean by second class citizen just because some people are not on billionaires list! we have over 200 ethnic groups just for the record!

Ha ha, they've done great against the push down from above, they don't rely on government support like the other regions.

Innoson is not the first black auto maker, he assembles imported Chinese car parts and puts his own logo on them, no different to Ford SA or the other car assemblers in Nigeria or Kenya.
The Chinese design, test, consult and manufacture.

I'm not sure where you get the 98% statistic. I won't be able to debate with you if you thumb suck numbers.

The argument has already been settled that whites developed most of the developed parts of Africa(Nigeria included). The difference is that South Africa has been maintaining, integrating and expanding what has already been developed while in places like Nigeria you see decay of British development and the little development that happens is spearheaded by foreigners(South African included).

So while you speak of pre-1994 grand decision makers, the reality is that in Nigeria the grand decision makers remain foreign people.
