I don't think the entire power project in Katsina will cost that; the $20 billion is for all projects planned under the power-for-Africa initiative! 5 Likes |

IGBOSON1:You are right. This is a project that will benefit the whole of the continent. Kastina is just part of the plan. A pipeline from the Soraz Refinery in Niger Republic would be laid to the project site in Kastina. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Jinyjagz:Don't worry... The US government will produced $14bn while private investors would produced $6bn. So the motive behind this is definitely profit driven. Since private investors are involved it would be completed in no time! Nigeria needs to open up for more private investors/projects if we really want this country to develop. They don't waste time like the government. 6 Likes |

Why not take the plant to states with gas in abundance and nearby so as to reduce the risk of pipeline vandalism in future? 2 Likes |

IGBOSON1:I was scared when I read that at first. You are right, the $20 bn is for the projects across Africa, I remember when Obama made the announcement on his visit to some African countries. |

This is indeed a welcomed development and no doubt of benefit to kano, whose its erstwhile vibrant industries have been deprived of its full quota of energy by successive wicked PDP governments - because of politics. It is equally reassuring to source the power plant's gas supply through pipelines from neighbouring Niger, which is more stable and friendly, rather than from the south in view of potential risk from saboteurs (from the creeks). It is also a big up as a whole for northern Nigeria; well done USA, we thank you for this support. 12 Likes |

gidjah: Sincere9gerian:Don't you get it? A pipeline would be laid from Niger republic to the project site in Katsina. Where is "Niger republic" located in the map of West Africa? Even if they shift the "Project site" to the SS,SE or SW the pipe will definitely still pass through the North(The North is closer to Niger republic). The pipe wouldn't pass through thin air so it will still be at risks of your so called "vandalism" no matter the region the "project site" would be located. Building a pipe all the way to the SS may be a waste of fund. I don't know why the investors chooses the Soraz refinery in Niger republic, but as long as that is their final option the North(Kastina especially) would be the best destination for a Project site. IMO, I think because this is a project to benefit the whole of the continent(Not just Nigeria) the North was chosen. Northern Nigeria alone is bordered by Chad, Cameroon, Niger republic and Benin republic. Since electricity cannot be transported through thin air the North is at closer reach to the rest of the continent. And don't forget power generation was recently dropped by a whopping 1,000MW due to pipeline vandalism. Are those pipelines in the North? The north is even safer. http://www.punchng.com/news/power-generation-drops-by-1000mw-to-2513mw/ 12 Likes 1 Share |

gidjah: See bad belle, what about those creekbillies in the south blowing pipelines everyday; isn't it instructive to note that the Oyinbos have already weighed carefully where most of the risk lies and decided to hedge their bet by investing their money in the relatively safer north. Yes, there is Boko Haram; but we are beginning to see the hands of their real sponsors - ask oga at the Top, he knows them all. 14 Likes |
