FIFA RANKING : Nigeria Drops In The Latest FIFA ranking by tomsniel(m): 7:58pm On Oct 23, 2014 |
Nigeria has slipped in the latest monthly ranking of FIFA released on Thursday. The African champions have been unimpressive in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA/ Coca Cola world ranking for October indicates this. The Super Eagles' poor run in the run-up to Maroc 2015 which started in the previous month continued in October with a loss to Sudan in Khartoum, though they recorded their first victory, four days later, against the Falcons of Jediane, in Abuja. However, that result did little or nothing to stop Nigeria from slipping to the 42nd position from the 37th it occupied last month. Apart from dipping in world ranking, Nigeria is now the ninth best in Africa. Algeria now leads the pack of the best 10 countries on the continent. The Desert Warriors are also 15th in the world - their highest-ever ranking. Algeria is followed by Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria and Togo, which made the biggest move from its previous 125th position to the 52nd position in the world. There are no changes among the first three countries in the world as Germany, Argentina and Colombia retain their positions. Brazil also remains in the sixth position. With the exception of Belgium, Netherlands, France, Uruguay and Spain whose positions changed among the top ten countries, only Portugal broke into the top 10, leaping two steps to the ninth position. www.tribune.com.ng/news/sports/item/19477-nigeria-slips-in-fifa-ranking |
