My opinion is that no sane driver under any circumstance should be involved in this kind of accident... Driving is no childs play so it shouldbe taken seriously. I use myself as a yardstick, I've driven for over a decade without hittig or get hit by another vehicle.

The fact that non of these has happened to you simply means you are just lucky! Or probably you've been driving in the streets of Abuja.

I've also been driving for more than a decade, and i've neither hit a vehicle nor a human being, though I've been hit several times especially in Lagos.

WOW! Dude! I'm speechless.. You encourage him to leave the victim/s even if there was the possibility of him saving someone. Then you talk about bribing your way out of the situation and then "move on with life" undecided That's why the country is fuked up
this is Nigeria, leave all that moral obligation behind and turn urself in......you've probably not seen mobs like dat. There re peeps who re jst there looking for an excuse to kill.....turn urslef in.....if it isn't too crowded or in a mre civilised location like abj, then you can stop and try being batman

some times it just beyond you...iv also bin driving for over 15yrs and never hit anyone but bin hit a couple of times but alas this year while driving on an express way one okada man just tried crossing without looking and just stopped right infront of me. It was an unavoidable hit. He flew into d bush while ma car was badly damaged. Thank God he didnt die, everyone around saw it clearly dat he just was at fault. I took him into his town, where his friends and family was n got him treated there...the comminity where he was were so good that even his folks didnt use sentiments to judge, when they all heard wat happened they clearly rebuffed the victim. And later protected me from police wahala. I began to wonder why I couldnt have just gone to the police but everyone I told simply said I wont want to go thru police wahala...and I just had to believe cuz before I left they were already hovering looking for who to victimize...the community know how they extort and make issues out of nothing...really its just the police that could have bin the safest place but here in nigeria ud end up being a bigger victim for trying to put ir trust in the police even though they still remain the safest heaven when in such situation...may God help the police so we can trust them more

I will run immediately, I won't wait to see if the person is dead or not depending on the impact . If you understand some Nigerian laws you will know that when your car is burnt it will bring lesser punishment.

...and what if your car is not burnt but u are over-powered and beaten to a pulp (God forbid sha) ?

I think it would save you some time and energy driving to the nearest police station.

I see the consensus here is to either run away as fast as you can and away from the scene or report to the police if you wanna take a chance with your life. While I understand the reasoning behind the actions which is the risk you of becoming a victim of the angry mob, I feel this has definitely turn us into animals, a beast without conscience.

We pray to God the most and I still don't understand how we expect blessings from God with this mindset, both the barbaric mob and the runaway driver. It's no surprise the country is currently the way it is.

As humans, we have lost the love for our neighbor and no empathy or selflessness. We have become selfish and could care less before burning an innocent person or in the case of the driver, abscond from the scene without our conscience pricking us.

We have more religious organizations in every corner than most countries combined yet our heart is filled with the most evil.

Every man has to take responsibility for his action and the earlier we start doing that, the better for the nation collectively. We have to fix our conscience, the government can't fix that.

If I hit somebody (God forbid), I will leave my car and run to the nearest FORTIFIED police station to report myself, praying for angry mob to set the car ablaze, which will make the law switch a little to my favour (that is, lesser punishment for me).

With what happened above. First, all the policemen in that station is supposed to be jailed for not carrying out their duty well.

Secondly, some arrests should have been made to caution others that thinks it is the right thing to do. They were not suppose to kill the man.

Thirdly, the parents of the children will now bear the cost of the burial and may even have a case to answer for jungle justice.

If it's bugatti, I will not give a hoot because I have the money to take the case to any length.

Do you know how many people governor's convoy or escort cars have killed in Nigeria? What happened to them?
Yes I know it's naija that is why people will even be happy taking pix of the bugatti instead of helping the victim.

Ofcorse you will run and leave your car for them burn to ashes. If you are driving Ferrari, Range Sport, porsch or X6, even Venza. Believe me you won't leave the car for them.

Here's a guy that places monetary value on human life. Are all the cars in the world worth losing your life for?

Lmao! cheesy

My elder sister has changed her horn countless times. One particular time during traffic, she was in the process of honking it when it died, yet again. My sis said her voice turned to a horn that day. Whenever one of this crazy Lagos danfos came too close to her, she would immediately shriek at the top her voice "watch, watch!!" If the vehicles preceding were too slow in moving, or pedestrians were hesitant in crossing in front her vehicle, she would stick out her head out of the window and bawl "mooove!!". Very traumatic experience, according to her. grin

Even Dad has changed horns a couple times. He uses 'eba power' to honk that thing, because, according to him, "some people's case have already been concluded in the spirit realm. They are just looking for who will finish it up in the physical" and he refuses to be the scapegoat for such people. cheesy

Ha ha ha. Eba power! Your dad knows howfar jare. He understands the mumuism of many naija drivers and your poor sister oooo. Ha ha .chei I pity her o. Naija roads you need loud speakerfor your voice to be heard among all those oka, danfo and crazy drivers horns. She must have lost het voice that day.

airsaylongcon:
This thread really strikes a nerve as I lost my mum last month from a hit-and-wait driver. Turned out she survived for a whole hour with a massive head injury. The problem with attempting to rescue is that most Nigerians lack basic first aid knowledge and end up worsening an already bad situation in a bid to help d vic.

In my case, the driver turned himself in. The police never let me see him though. They (the popo) were talking about doing a coroner's inquest and stuff but my mum was in such bad shape that further balkanisation of her remains would have been unbearably painful. To end the police case, they made me swear and affidavit that I was withdrawing the case against d driver. Swearing that affidavit nobi beans cos all d court registrars in yenagoa just didn't wanna sign. Ended up costing 15k. At the end of the whole process they didn't even let me see my mum's killer. They eventually followed me to fmc yenagoa to have my mum's remains released to me (with enough thank u money).

I don't know if I can ever forget the driver's name or his act. But I've forgiven him. Moving on is hard but move on I must.

I didn't even know the killer paid for the burial. I didn't ask or get a penny from him but I'm sure the police would have collected a large sum from him cos dat DCO eye no clean.

Buried her in tears and in honour but d pain is still very raw
Bless you and yours...
