MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET A DISASTER, OBJ WARNS GMB
Muslim/Muslim OR Christian/Christian Ticket Is Unacceptable

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has categorically warned Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to discard the idea of a Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket. He said that at this time of the nation's precarious unity such a ticket was "absurd and out of tune" with Nigeria

Chief OBJ said a Muslim-Muslim (or a Christian-Christian) Presidential ticket is simply "unacceptable" and "a non-starter" because Nigeria has a definite need for "religious consideration in handing out the ticket."

Chief OBJ issued the statement from Abeokuta to directly challenge Gen. Buhari's statement on TheCable interview that he saw "nothing wrong in a Muslim Muslim presidential ticket as long as it produced a team that would take the country to the promised land."

OBJ said that in present-day Nigeria "It will be insensitive to the point of absurdity for any leader or any political party to be toying with a Muslim- Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket." He advised that "sensitivity" enhances "confidence and trust."

Warning that UNIFORMITY is not UNITY, OBJ said that:

"Nigeria cannot at this stage raise the spectre and fear of Islamization or Christianization. The idea of proselytization in any form is a grave danger that must not be contemplated by any serious-minded politician at this delicate situation in Nigeria, as this time is different from any other time."
