Oxford Researchers List Top 10 Most Annoying Phrases By John Scott Lewinski November 07, 2008 http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008, -research.html Not all University of Oxford researchers are uptight and humorless, "irregardless" of what you might think. In fact, a bunch of them compiled a list of the Top 10 Most Irritating Expressions in the English language -- just because we needed one, , The great hierarchy of verbal fatigue includes: 1 - At the end of the day 2 - Fairly unique 3 - I personally A Reply to the Above, With all due respect I personally think this was an absolutely huge waste of time. At the end of the day do we need a list of annoying phrases? At this moment in time it's difficult to get funding for useful research and these guys get grant money for such nonsense, it's a nightmare! They shouldn't of bothered wasting their time 24/7 on such admittedly fairly unique but ultimately pointless drivel; it's not rocket science. |

At the end of the day -- Useful in its place, but probably a bit overused. Fairly unique -- Abominable. Unique is, by definition, unable to be compared. Something, thus, is or is not unique. I, personally -- Good example of pleonasm. Redundancy for the sake of emphasis. Can be effective, but don't over do it. (By the way, Gamine--I think you mean "shouldn't have bothered" |

Re: 10 Most Annoying Phrases by Busybody2(f): 1:22am On Nov 19, 2008 |
KarmaMod: get in is like hmmn can't describe it it's the men that uses this. One example is; if a man succeeds in getting a date with u, then calls his friends to share the good news, they could make derogatory comments like "get in" which means the dude should get their rocks off or get your leg over or get their wicked way with you |
