Buhari, Atiku and others have been invited by APC south-south chapter to present their manifestos
Ahead of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the South-South zonal chapter of the party has invited all the presidential aspirants on the party’s platform to unveil their plans for the country to its members.Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governors Rabi’u Kwakwaso of Kano State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State as well as the founder of LEADERSHIP Group, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, were among those invited.
The decision to invite the five presidential hopefuls was taken at a meeting of the Zonal chapter on Sunday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
At the meeting were the National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, Deputy National Chairman (South), Segun Oni, Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, former military governor of Ogun State, Sam Ewang, BoT member and Sam Sam Jaja.
Current and former members of the party in the National Assembly from the South-South zone and state party chairmen were also in attendance.
A statement issued by the office of the Zonal Chairman of the APC, Hilliard Eta, on Monday, noted that the aspirants are to appear individually on dates yet to be determined, to the leaders and members of the party in the zone to present their manifestoes.
The statement signed by Bassey Ita, media aide to the zonal chairman, said the meeting resolved that the aspirants would be expected to address key developmental needs of the south-south zone in relation to the party’s six-point manifesto, which was reviewed and adopted last week at the extra ordinary national convention of APC in Abuja.
“At the Port Harcourt meeting on Sunday, the zonal chairman, Prince Eta, had reiterated the commitment of the party to provide a ‘solid base’ for the south-south zone to experience real growth and development anchored on well thought out programme of action that takes into account the peculiarities of the area, so the days of rigmarole over south -south issues will be over as APC provides government at the centre come 2015”,
it stated.
The statement also said the meeting agreed to strategically re-position the party to capture more states in the coming elections.It said the party evolved other strategies germane to elections victory in the south-south states’.
“Based on the ‘roughness’ of the south-south terrain especially as it concerns the antecedent of our major opponent in the elections, the party thought it wise to be different and ahead of that major opponent through effective elections victory strategy that will unfold later”
the statement stressed.
