Buhari on last day of 1983, overthrew the democratically elected government of Nigeria. He said the army was in a mission to “save Nigeria from imminent collapse”. Who knows where Nigeria as a nation would have been today, had Buhari not brought darkness upon the nation. Buhari was famed for using brutal force, with the strict supervision of his then deputy, Tunde Idiagbon, to enforce 'discipline' in Nigerians. It was not surprising that the whole 'air of sanity' that pervaded the nation vanished with his exit as his government paid no attention to building institutions. One thing Nigerians have not yet considered is the harm Buhari's interference in the government would have caused the country. My question now is who knows how Nigeria would have turned out did Buhari not destroy the nascent democracy in 1983?
