ASABA—SUSPECTED Fulani herdsmen have shot dead a villager and abducted five persons at Umuachi-Afor in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

A community leader gave the name of the dead as Ossai Oluem, aged 18.

Those kidnapped were Florence Onwuka, 42; Chukwudi Onwuka, 15; Ugochukwu Onwuka, 13; Innocent Ndego, 20; and Nwabuaku Beninchukwu, 24.

Vanguard was told that the invaders also stole money.

Police spokesman, ASP Roland Preston, in a statement, confirmed the incidents, but said they were later released.

It was gathered that the herdsmen invaded the community, November 2, over alleged seizure of arms from one of them by a member of the community, identified as Frank Odili.

Preston said: “On receipt of the report, police detectives visited the scene of crime and removed the corpse of the deceased to Saint Luke Mortuary, Kwale, for autopsy.

“Preliminary inquiry indicates that the attack was sparked off by alleged seizure of a firearm from a cattle herdsman by one Frank Odili from Umuachi-Afor community, and his refusal to return it sparked off the revenge mission.”

“The whereabouts of Odili is yet unknown and efforts are on to arrest the attackers.”

Why another violence again? Can't there be dialogue between these herdsmen and their host community?
