UNILEVER Nigeria Plc has commenced its proposed $200m new investments in Nigeria with the opening of a new liquids plant in Agbara, Ogun State.
In the month of September this year,
Unilever’s Global Chief Executive Officer, Paul
Polman had announced that the company will
make an additional $200million worth of new
investments in Nigeria over the next five
years, of which Agbara liquids plant now
represents the first project to be completed
and commissioned under the proposed capital
expenditure.

Commissioning the plant, the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said, “Undoubtedly, this $13m Liquids Factory being commissioned today is the latest addition to the various long term investments Unilever Nigeria Plc has made in Nigeria recently and it will generate direct and indirect jobs to thousands of people. This is apart from the fact that the Factory will engage in business with many Small and Medium scale enterprises.”
He explained that at the inception of his Administration forty months ago, he made it a priority to create a conducive ambience for the growth of business and development of economic activities in the state.
“While we encourage the development of big industries, we also support the expansion of the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME’s) because of our belief that both are important for the creation of a strong economic base to take our State to the desired heights, give a better life for the present and provide a solid foundation for the future. Today’s event therefore, is another symbolic attestation to this fact,” he said.
He used that opportunity to remind industrialists all over Ogun State, to be mindful of their Corporate Social Responsibility to their host communities, stressing that they will be supporting the Government in improving the standard of living of the people,
aside from being rated as good cooperate citizens.
“Industrialists that are yet to commence their Corporate Social Responsibility should learn to plough back into their host communities, part of what they have gained thereof,” he said.
