I have never commented in politics section but I will comment on this. fashola is overrated. he came into power, did some little things and used the media to hype it all, after that he did nothing again, he simple embezzled d huge sum of money at his disposal especially during his second term. this man has taught many lagosians a lesson. unfortunately, some ignorant people are still being fooled. 10 Likes |

poiZon: With all the exon crap you listed, what states work with at the end of the day after putting their taxes and allocation together is their yearly budgets. Akwa Ibom's yearly Budgets are larger than Lagos state's budget by at least N100 billion. In 2013 Lagos state's total IGR/year is 240 billion and fed allocation is 168 billion = 408 billion The budget for 2013 is 497 billion. It means Lagos state still with 20 million people have to look elsewhere to make up the difference to get to the 489 billion budget... Akwa Iboms budget for the same year was 469 billion + 70 billion supplemental = 539 billion 497 billion and 539 billion, please tell us who is richer and should be able to commission projects everyday? Why is Fashola with less money than Akwa Ibom commissioning projects everyday while Akwa Ibom doesn't? Have you asked yourself the above question? It's common sense and self explanatory, but you people for some weird reason just play dumb and clueless.. 2 Likes |

Nigeria is in big trouble. Even the die-hard critics of Fashola like the many PDP supporters here know in their minds he is a visionary and developmental minded person. Then what is wrong with us as a people that we can't just get it right even with our good intentions? Each time am in Lagos and I see most of these dilapidated roads I just wonder. Nigerians are not swayed by gigantic elephant projects. Just give them good roads, provide them electricity and good pipe-borne water and you are good to go. It takes critical analytical minds to appreciate whatever Fashola is doing in Lagos state. But in terms of providing basic infrastructures he has failed the masses who voted him IMO. This is not to say I buy into the school of thought he embezzled all these funds meant for development or encourages corruption. 1 Like |

Fashola is slightly better than tinubu, but with d kind of revenue at his disposal a smarter money man would do wonderous and mouth watering things unfortunately Fashola a smart 419 lawyer has only succeded in duping lagosians in his second term. |

chronique: In as much as I would have love just reading comments,i believe we all should let the public know if or not any impact from the present government is felt. I can categorically say that we have well constructed roads right here in Ifako Ijaye LG of Lagos done by this present administration. SO for those claiming mainland is yet to feel the present administration impact,i will encourage you to do proper research before spilling lies on public sites like this. 1 Like |

The story makes it seems Fashola has been generating 400 billion annual IGR from 2007. Truth is, it has been an annual growth. 185 billion in 2010, 202 billion in 2011, 219 billion in 2012 and 384.26bn in 2013 - a testament to an improved Lagos business environment and visionary leadership of Tunde Fashola. The article also talks about replicating Dubai in Lagos. Dubai has an annual budget of $12 billion and debt of $60 billion with a population of 2 million. Compare that to Lagos with an annual budget of $2 billion, debt of $2 billion and population of 18 million and you will see the foolishness in the comparison. There is no way Lagos on its own can be a Dubai in 8 years with the level of funds available to it - yet Fashola has delivered and built institutions with what he has. The writer talks about LASU and forgets that qualitative education will lift people out of poverty faster than quantitative education. The students of LASU demanded for £100 University school fees and it is not visible with the vision Lagos state sees for its school. I won'tbe surprised that the writer is one of those who pays over 2 million naira annually for his kids foreign education. I do not support Fashola for taking the fees down! Regarding the bridge, I'm not an expert on bridge cost. However, I have passed that bridge and I give kudos to him for building the bridge. I guess it won't be rocket science to find comparative figures for bridges. If he built the ramp with 2 billion, it shows consistency if the Ikoyi bridge costs 27 billion. What is hypocritical about questioning the reasoning of electing a man with corruption and murder case over his head? Is it hypocritical to be baffled why people will vote for stomach infrastructure over development projects? This article is hogwash and it's amazing how the TANoids have jumped all over this thread in celebration. The achievements of Fashola in 8 years of governorship cannot be destroyed by ill thought articles. Fashola is not a saint. The media's story about him is no hype. He is a leader far ahead of the crop of PDP leaders in government including the president. The article strove for a balanced view by starting with some of his accomplishments but ended showing it wasn't written by an objective writer. 3 Likes |

To my fellow Nairalander who argue without facts and only are champions in insulting and calling other people who have critically made good analysis very debasing names my response remains that you all should drop sentiments, travel a lot to see things first hand and lastly get wise. 1 I am a non partisan Nigerian and support no party 2 I don think party developes or gives good governance, I think it is the individual who is in a poistion of authority 3.Tinubu did not do much to fix Lagos as he was only interested chiefly in consolidating the stronghold of Alliance for Democray (AD) on the largest city with a symbol of developement to the yoruba Race from Obasanjo led PDP. It was Politics of Ego that Tinubu played and held Lagos. 4. Tinubu might not have achieved anything but he is to a great extent a succesful politician. Now as AC later ACN and Now APC the party has made more inroads into the nation by embarking on Populist Agenda and Development which Tinubu hadn't time to embark on, The BRT was Tinubu's Brain child for example. 5 Yes Brother with all the Billions coming into Akwa Ibom, Hunger, prostitution, kidnapping, menial jobs and other demeaning jobs haven't left the Akwa ibomites. They are allover, Port Harcourt, Aba, Calabar, Umuahia, Lagos and so on and few of them live well. 6 My observations aren't based on hearsay. 7 I really see those who can't argue without insulting or calling names as immature and they need to grow up. The intelligent ones have so far read and understood the angle I was coming from and it doesn't make me not to be at some point wrong in my view which makes me stand to be corrected anytime. |

aresa:when I made my point I never intended to follow it up cos I know it'll lead to a never-ending argument just like I've been warned. I state again that yes, fashola did a few good things but he skillfully used the media to overhype these few deeds in such a way that it almost covers up all the embezzlement he has done. most people don't know about the funds he has access to so they believe he has done so much. all his media hyping is just a cover up. if u notice from his deeds he doesn't seem to care for the common man at all. finally, just to make it clear, I'm not into any party, I don't care what party he belongs to, but I see myself as not among d ignorant. 1 Like 1 Share |

No one is saying fash did nothing but with the federal allocation and igr he could do way better than what is on ground, people have the right to good roads, electricity and water these are basic amenities that each government must provide for it's citizens most state government are below par when compared to what fash is doing in Lagos .If only we can look beyond party affiliation and critically analyze each state government then you will comprehend that each of them have totally failed the people 1 Like |

Dubai with 2million people owes over $80b and was bailed out by Abu Dhabi only a few years back. Lagos with 20m people owes $3.8b. If Lagos was as spendthrift as Dubai, it should be owing $800b. Lagos has been prudent. Dont believe the Dubai hype! |
