The Falcons are expected to depart Bata for Malabo today to prepare for the tie against the host country on Tuesday.
Earlier before the game yesterday, the NFF had lodged a protest to CAF to observe a South African player, Matlou Alice, whom the FA suspected to be a man because of her physique. There are three players of similar stature in the Equatorial Guinean team could this be mpele? |

Thursday, November 27, 2008 guardian We played against men, Falcons claimsFrom Gowon Akpodonor, Malabo, E'Guinea
WHILE soccer loving Nigerians are wondering what happened to the Super Falcons in Tuesday's semi final clash with Equatorial Guinea, in which the team surrendered its African title, two players of the team, Maureen Eke and Lillian Cole have claimed that the presence of three 'boys' in the host team played a damaging role against them.
The reign of Nigeria's Super Falcons as African champions was brought to an end by a relatively unknown Nzalang Nationale of Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday in the on-going 2008 AWC in Malabo, as their semi final encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the host country.
Speaking with The Guardian yesterday at their Tropicana Hotel camp, Eke and Cole described the defeat as very painful, but said that the failure on the part of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to act on the protest filed by Nigeria against the host country over the use of hermaphrodite players, played a key role in the team's failure.
"Nigerians back home may not know what we passed through", Cole said.
"I am not trying to give excuses for our inability to make it to the final, but sincerely speaking, it would be difficult for a team made of female players to beat those Equatorial Guinean team. We played against men and it is so unfortunate for CAF to allow 'men' to be playing in a nations cup meant for women.
"Those two players (Simpore Bilguisa and Bimporeb Salimata) are men no matter how somebody will try to convince me. Even their captain, Anonma Genoveva is more of a man than a woman. I expected CAF to act on the protest filed by Nigeria before the match.
"On a normal situation, there is no way Equatorial Guinea would defeat us. Not Super Falcons. So, I want Nigerians back home to forgive us because we didn't lose our title to women but men", Cole added.
Eke shared the same opinion, saying the presence of those two 'men' in the Guinean squad stopped the Falcons from operating smoothly.
"We did everything within our limit to break into their defence but you saw how the 'boy' in their defence was using his power to block every move we made. He didn't give us any space at all because he has the power of a man and it was very wrong,'' she said.
Eke appealed to soccer loving Nigerians to take the defeat in good faith, saying that the technical crew led by Joseph Ladipo did their best to bring the title back to Nigeria. She said that the Falcons would bounce back and re-claim the title in the next edition of the championship. i think this team is made up of deepzone, karma, spikecylinder |
