Yesterday, Mr Femi Falana and human right activist visited OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY being an alumnus of the university. He was invited by the Equity chambers international on the Account of the 50th teaching anniversary of one of his teacher. In attendance was the presiding judge of the Appeal court of nigeria also an alumni of the university. In his lecture, he talked on " insurgency in Nigeria, the legal challenge". He challenged former president Olusegun Obasanjo for the reason behind the rise of the BOKO HARAM sect for refusing to take action after being warned due to his jocular nature at the proposal of sharia by Ex Governor Al-modu sheriff in Borno State. He however convincingly said that MR Sheriff brought Boko Haram into existence and has since and is still currently sponsoring them. He disclosed that the failed ceasefire agreement between the federal goverment and the sect was through the ex governor in Chad. According to him, he had confronted him with the allegation and was yet to recieve any response. He lamented seriously at the insincerity of the government in tackling insurgency. His speech threw the entire audience into thorough reflection. Of course, we had the reason to regret being victims of a failed nation like ours. |
