One Year After: Another ASUU Strike? by Mc4larin: 9:18pm On Nov 14, 2014 |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be going on another very long strike just a year after they called off their 5-month long strike, following the Federal Government inability to honour the agreement it reached with the lecturers during the last strike. Speaking yesterday at a press briefing in remembrance of the killing of former ASUU leader, Professor Festus Iyayi by the convoy of Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, ASUU lamented the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill its promises. The union disclosed that no government-owned university had received a dime from the N200 billion the government said it had set aside for the revitalization of university education in the current year. Chairman, Nnamdi Azikiwe University branch of ASUU, Comrade Dennis Aribidor said: “It seems Iyayi’s death opened the pandora box that suggests that ASUU’s relationship with government might seem irreconcilably hostile. While he fought for a just cause, ASUU is presently skeptical that he died in vain especially since the contention over honouring the ASUU-FG 2009 agreement, which cut his life short, is still far-fetched. This position is based on some hard truths.” Details on AIT Online 8 Likes 14 Shares

Extra year for some people be that o... should they go on strike, the likelihood of them being ignored for electioneering is their, while on the other hand, the government may want to speedily sort them out to avoid a campaign down point. Whichever way, methinks it's time our supposed scholars device other means to move the government into action rather than holding the bulk of the future generation on ransom thereby jeopardising their future. 31 Likes 2 Shares |

I pray there will be no repeat of last years strike. but more importantly I have these thoughts to share with you. ASUU strike do not have a hold on your lifes success. You have total control of your life. What you do with it is important. I'll tell you a short story about my friend ola. We graduuated from the same secondary school. I got admission 3 years ahead of him. Ola enrolled for training in Java, PHP, MySQL and CSS while making efforts to get admission. The bottomline, there was no wasted years for him. He eventually got admitted to study chemistry in the University. Ola made alot of money helping computer science students with their assignments and project. He was recognized by the school authority and was part of the schools programming team. This did not stop him from being one of d best students in his department. There is nothing compared to self realization, self education n purposeful living. Make your time count.........n ur life will shine. ASUU STRIKE OR NO ASUU STRIKE. Unfortunate. Really sad tale for this nation. I pity this country's youth. I spent 9 years, in fact 10 years, in school (Even though I never had even a single COV) due to this collapsed system called Nigeria.
