House Speaker Tambuwal Says He Is Ready To Face The Police
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has reacted to the invitation by the Nigerian Police in Abuja.
BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKNOV 21, 2014
The speaker who was earlier today declared wanted by the Nigerian police however warned the police from partisanship. In a statement signed by his media aide, Imam Imam, Tambuwal promised to honor the date with the police authorities but cautioned the police to remain politically neutral.

See full text of the statement below:

The attention of the Hon Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, has been drawn to publications in the media to the effect that the Inspector General of Police has ordered that he, Speaker, be invited to the Force Headquarters and that he be arrested if he resisted.

The Honorable Speaker wishes to state that he is a law abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has no immunity against arrest and prosecution except privileges as may be provided by the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act.

Accordingly , the Hon Speaker states for the records that he is available, ready and willing to answer any lawful invitation from any of the Security agencies on any matter for which they may require his attention.

The Speaker expresses dismay at the unprofessional conduct of the Nigerian Police in the attempt to stop him from accessing the House of Representatives chambers on the 20th November 2014 to preside over the Special Session of the House on the State of Emergency Extension requested by Mr President, for which he had recalled members from their working recess.

Most disgraceful is the false statement later issued by the Police in which they claimed that in the lawful exercise of their duties “ Alh Aminu Tambuwal CFR, arrived the venue with a motley crowd, who broke the cordon, assaulted the Police and evaded due process”. This blatant falsehood coming from a law enforcement agency, that is expected to be neutral and lawful, is unfortunate, to say the least.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Hon Speaker came to National Assembly accompanied by Hon Members as is customary during any sitting of the House. They all came with their official vehicles but were disallowed from driving into the premises. Certainly Hon Members, who arrived the precinct of the National Assembly in response to a call to perform an urgent, critical national assignment, cannot be described by any self respecting institution as “a motley crowd “

It is important to remind the Nigeria Police Force that as a public institution that provides common services for all the arms of government, they must not allow themselves to be used by one of the arms to undermine the others.

Is the Inspector General of Police thinking with his bum? Why is he determined to inflict more damage to the already battered image of the President and government. How come President Jonathan is unfortunate to be surrounded with such miscreants. We have a new Chief Justice and I hope he won't join the fray and rubbish all that Justice Aloma did.

Even though Mr. Jonathan is a good family man, he has surrounded himself with the worste set of people; advisers, ministers, spokesmen...

Any further unreasonable move by the Lt. Sani Abacha's killerman i.e. Inspector General of the NPF on the Tambuwal, is a minus on GEJ's dwindling reputation, even if he has no hand in it.

Tambuwal has nothing to lose politically. His aspiration of becoming the governor of the caliphate state for the next eight years is almost certain.

I'm a Tambuwal supporter but I think he should resign on moral grounds, having defected from the party that sponsored his election. He shouldn't use the instrumentality of the courts to scuttle that. That said; he remains the Speaker and the IGP has no right to enforce the judgement of PDP instead of obeying court ruling. The IGP is inflicting more harm on the president than the Speaker.

"I am ready to face the Police"
This is how to build political capital, this is how to build followership and make yourself relevant Tambuwal is now a man to watch in Nigerian politics. If you want to win him the Presidency of the future all you need do is detain him for a few days. Everyday in detention is 10 million supporters. Jonathan never passed through this persecution stage and that is why he is the least crediblw politician in office. This regime has been manufacturing the future destroyers of its own PDP. We already have one called Amaechi now a new one called Tambuwal has arisen.

Well, though morality is part of the law, letters of the constitution are also important. Those who are gullibly shouting that Tam should do the needful have never ask even one of tens of defectors since 1999 to PDP to abdicate their positions.
MORESO, Tam was never, and would NEVER have become the Speaker by the intent and design of PDP. That means he never got there by PDP, but the House. That House, and not PDP has the final say and the serial disobedient Executive and PDP should shut their stinking mouths.
Tam can step down as a Rep ONLY if we can go back and ask ALL those who have defected in this DISPENSATION will step out simultaneously. Ondo Speaker is there, our 'mis-focus' will rather protect him and the gov.
You see, obeying the laws is good BUT those who don't CANNOT and SHOULD NOT crave others to obey it.
