I understand all these though, my issue is with the delays caused by this crisis. It's Nigerian ego thing and the customs won't change.

My package said to have left US since 8th or 14th November is still somewhere on the tarmac who knows cause of this issue.

If only freighters can come out plain to importers issues such as this won't be happening undecided

On the other hand if it's in Ghana, it's clear and transparent no issues with ego or all these agent/Customs fighting. It's sad.

Hoping one gets delivery before Christmas and intact too undecided

ZACHIE:

Well chargeable weight is different from actual weight and in airfreighting, the airline will choose whichever is higher.
This apply even in Tibet, so going to Ghana will not change anything, Sister.

There are 2 applications to this: an import of say empty Suitcases will occupy space but will be light.
The chargeable weight will be the dimensional area mass occupied by the suitcase and not its actual or scale weight.

The other one is a little technical and it is used only for paying freights

I dont know for the other people, but I speak out of personal experience for myself. I have had materials posted through USPS that you track out of US and then disappear forever. Not once, not twice. Personal. Not that someone told me. And I used my office address; one of the most popular teaching hospitals in Nigeria. If you get your package, maybe it is some small items, any big items; phones, laptops etc, forget it.
Sorry about your items that went AWOL but twice that i have used them i had no issues and both were electronic gadgets. I was also very sceptical but they proved me wrong. First it was a brand new tablet from you the uk and the other was a laptop and other computer parts. When next someone sends things to you through usps, china post or royal mail just get the tracking number handy. 5 to six days after those coy notify you that they have transferred it for onward shipment to Nigeria. Head over to nipost website. They have a tracking page. Input the tracking number. It would display the actual date the package was recieved, the time and its location. Head over to the post office with your id and tracking number. In minutes you would get your items. I normally use the ebutte meta office and have a bit of understanding with them. They informed me to always include my phone number on the package and after that they have been the ones calling me of its arrival. I am heading over there today to go collect another item and i would upload images. I was a worse critic of them in the past but in the last few months my perception of them has changed. There are lots of issues with them still but once you are vigilant you shouldn't fall victim to the thieves amongst them.

I won't dignify the ignorant fellow that has been cursing up and down the thread like a tout. It shows the way he was brought up.

Not good news but it must be said since you asked for it.

Customs have decided to double the Duty benchmark hitherto paid on all shipmenst.
Before now, minimum Duty benchmark was 50,000/ shipment of less than 50kgs.
Now that it is doubled, it means you pay 100,000 for any shipment of less than 50kgs regardless of its value/cost. (I will post the intended tariff later on)

And this is beside NAHCO/SAHCOL handling charges, SON/NAFDAC for regulated items, Agency fee and documentation expenses and transportation charges.

Welcome to the changes Olanrewaju brought to the Airport.

Before now, you could arrange to do tarmac pickup for small items and parcels. But with what is coming, you cannot do that.

They may just have killed little businesses with this obnoxious increased benchmark.

Conversely, this might also mean an upsurge in the number of importers doing proper PAAR documentation.

This whole Olanrewaju episode may have been a ruse after all. Seems to me that customs' game plan has always been about doubling their Duty, which importers and clearing agents under the circumstance have seemingly been cornered into accepting and paying.

This is what I'm complaining about. I have two shippers yet NONE has deemed it fit to send me and their other customers any email notification assuring us all not only about the safety of the packages but also if they've started clearing precisely.

We all prayed for this thing to be over but when you don't carry along the customers then its very bad.

To all shippers & agents here ...please and please let us your customers know what is happening. Most of us may not be around to spend the Christmas break here in Lagos so not telling us the true position of things affects our ability to plan and also it will impact on our doing business with you all in the future if you disappoint us all on our Christmas deliveries to our clients.

I'm really trying to be patient dear BUT for how long can this patience last? Stuff that was scheduled to leave US on the 5th or at most 8th of November 2014 did not leave until 14th or 15th of November 2014 too much conflicting dates of departures.

Ok ....finally got the SMS to make payment which I did, followed up with calls for the lady there to confirm my payment no way according to her "until the goods arrive at the Lagos warehouse". Imagine in this time and age of real-time payments angry until I got wind of this issue.

Now tell me, as a customer, is it my duty to follow up on issues such as this or the person offering the service updates me the customer? If not for my following this thread I never would have been notified by my shippers.

I exercised patience all through the unfolding events, I never called or emailed my shipper until two days ago and believe me .....I'm yet to get a feedback or response from them to my email angry you now see why I say this thing is just a typical Nigerian way of handling things?

Right now I'm online battling another shipper to update my received items to enable me ship out on time and hopefully take delivery before the break ....dem de post me left and right.

We can be a truly great country if only we can set our ways of doing things right.

I would wonder what the Customs are doing if right now as I type they are not at the sheds clearing the backlogs their foolishness caused, they can as well run shifts rather than sit all day and all night on Badagry express road disturbing travelers and extorting N500.00 grin

Believe me ....I just taya for this country o! Na we de take our hands destroy destiny.

Asked an official here. Said you should go to the nearest post office to your office address taking your tracking number and identification along. She said there's a registry for all items and its hard to go missing because someone has to sign off for it before it is taken out and sometimes they don't deliver to home you have to come pick it. You have to go there to check. You may be lucky those items are still there.

For the naysayers. Here's a package by same usps and china post I just picked today. All arrived a week after shipment and both electronic gadgets. This is not to say I give a green light using them. Use your discretion.

My dear you have to imbibe a lot of patience. I will explain to you why-
1.There is serious congestion at the airport. Goods are strewn across the tarmac as far as the eye can see.
2. Agents are not allowed into the bulk breaking area any more. In the old system agents could go to the tarmac collate their importers cargo and forklift them into the sheds. No more of that. You have to wait for Nahcco or Sahcol staff to do it at their own pace.
3. Duty must be paid. Anything you paid on cargo before is now doubled times two. So if you were paying 100 k before expect to pay 200k.
4. Demurrage negotiations are on going between agents and the handling companies. Your agents are really battling this matter so that there is a reduction of the demurrage.
5. The Customs are on ground. They were on duty yesterday saturday and will be on duty on sunday, but they can only examine and release what is brought into the shed from the tarmac by Nahcco and Sahcol fork lifts. This is why Olanrewaju was insisting that the handlers need enough facilities and equipment to handle cargo from the tarmac to the sheds. The bitter truth is that these handlers DO NOT have enough forklifts to do the job and they have consistently refused to up grade.
Goods are being cleared but at a slow speed because of lack of enough equipment.

Thanks dear. I understand every bit but in the case where your freighter is not communicating to you the importer/customer the true situation of things, how are supposed to know?

If agents are not allowed in, importers won't too so it all boils down to the freighter giving us that info.

Still the Nigerian way of doing things shaaa. One would have expected NAHCO or SAHCOL to license private stevedoring firms to supply all the handling tools required to complement theirs but as usual, one company wan chop all the money naaa undecided

We go de watch naa but God nor go forgive those people wey wan spoil we Christmas so angry

Happy Sunday to you dear.

Hello,
You would have been informed but the fact remains that your goods have not yet been received by us from your supplier so there was nothing to tell you since we were not yet in custody of your goods.

TheMadame
This is the message my 'supposed' shipper sent me yesterday.
My items left my supplier on 13th of nov.
Now my question is this; is it possible for my items to be heading to Nigeria without my shipper knowing about it?
Though supplier recomended them to.
Thanks for ur time concerning all the updates.

Sounds complicated undecided

Where are you based?
Where is your supplier based?
Where is your shipper based or scheduled to receive the goods?
Where is the final destination for the goods?

These are questions you need to supply answers to for anyone to assist you except you're mistaking shipper for shipper's agent

Is your shipper supposed to pick it up from Lagos or China? Or the Supplier (in China) works with the Shipper (in Lagos) to further get the goods down to you in Delta?

If yes then it means that your Supplier is shipping it down to Lagos and expects your local shipper to clear and send down to you in Delta. So contact your Supplier for the tracking details and when goods left China.
