I used Sensationnel But i just learnt something, best to use human hair bulk, not synthetic cause its too rough for the hair. I really want to colour my hair for summer! |

gamine i loveeee ur extension braids. just the pic overall. i wanna get braids soon. how long did u keep it for? did u get buildup issues? how often do u wash it etc? jelly have u ever straighten ur hair with flat iron? will u recommend it? |
Re: Black Hair Does Grow. Let's Prove It! by Gamine(f): 11:55am On Apr 20, 2010 |
@Oyinda, I've had it over four weeks now, i try to wash every week,(using shikakai) but im gonna start doing it more often, because they do dry quick. I also use a braid oil spray in between, and moisturize my scalp everyday so theres hardly any question of buildup. Still need an answer on colour, |

Thank you every one, especially jellybean for your replies. I've been natural now for over 2yrs but recently my hair started breaking at an alarming rate and i almost went for a relaxer. Thank God for this post. I love your regimen jellybean and i'm going to follow it to the letter. I really hope it'll work for me. What other hair care products do you recommend? |
Re: Black Hair Does Grow. Let's Prove It! by Nobody: 8:30am On Apr 21, 2010 |
oyinda.: Not really but I have straightened it myself just a lil bit, I will recommend it if you want straight hair but i don't advise constant everyday/week use cos i heard from friends that constant usage leads to hair breakage. Every 2 weeks is fine. |

douxange: Thankyou babe Hair product; wild growth organic root stimulator olive hair products GOOD shampoo, i would like to recommend what i use but it actually depends on the individual kind of hair. conditioner(once in a while if you have dry hair) good hair extensions and braider that won't pull out your scalp |

Gamine, about the hairdye I use: Wow those are longgg! I use a new one now, called Colour Rays. Most times when I try to dye my hair bright colours, the dye wouldnt work but this one (colour rays) works! Mind you, it is permanent. When I dont want permanent hair colour, I use the regular L'Oreal or Revlon brands. My hair is yet to break for dyeing them and I dye my hair LOTS! I made a clip the last time I dyed my locks. Here is a link to it: http://omoduduonidada..com/2010/02/color-rays-of-red-n-black.html Enjoy, Sissy: My locks are permanent. I dont intend on taking them out. I hear though, that it is possible to take them out (though I wouldnt go the locking route if I intend on taking them out). If you want locks you can take out, may I suggest you single braid (without extensions) or use dread extensions? Thanks, Sissy. Ebonyeyes Thanks!!! I did! My real haircolour isnt black enough for me lol so I dyed it jet black. I got my locks done by my stylist (a locktician) who specializes in sisterlocks. Good luck on your natural hair journey. And dont forget to post a pic if you dont mind. |

Hi all,how do you wash your braids. I have braids in and before I started taking care of them,I would just grease it whenever it looked dry. Now that I know better and have braids in, I cannot figure out how to wash it. Help a sister out. Oh and does one deep condition on braids? |

Well I've had kinky braids on for about 2 months. I wash and deep-condition it every week. Most Naija Stylist/salon will tell you to use Methylated spirit to clean braids but that is not clean enough for me. I always prefer shampoo-wash & conditioner (beside methylated spirit will further dry up my hair lol). Sometimes I wash my kinky braids myself. In fact it is beacause kinky is so easy to wash/dry and maintain that I love it best amongst different kinds of braids I use cold water or luke warm water and rub my scalp and the braids gently (not vigorously like most naija salon will rub your hair like a local washaman washing cloth beside the stream ). Once hair is clean I apply my conditioner and cover with a cap for about 10 minutes and then rinse off. My hair is as good as new and smell so too I used Olive Oil Shampoo and Natural Vial (Sage & jojoba) conditioner. |

This week I will take a pic of my fro, Ive been using this suff call Nu-Gro thats organic. and It helps so far. even though it doesnt give my hair that much slip, it makes its extremely soft and managable. I can cornrow my scalp in half the time I used to, and I have way less shed hair, virtually none. I had cut off about 4 inches afterI got it pressed in jan, so Im anxious to see what it looks like, but it shrinks so much but when i braid it I know its getting longer because it was down my back before I cut it, wasnt after, now its touching the back of my neck. It smells kinda funky (Garlic is in it and Parsley, but It does control itching) Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Parsley, Garlic, Nettle, Burdock, Horsetail Coltsfoot, Rosemary Leaf, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Safflower Oil, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Paba Panthenol (B-5), Vitamin E and D, Aloe Vera. I wash with a clarifying shampoo once a week and deep condtion (alternate With Protein/ and DPR11) |

Guys, I havent relaxed in almost 6months. Do you think i can get away with dooing human hair weave on?! i need somethings quick for emergencies. Would it look 'better' if i straightened it? |
Re: Black Hair Does Grow. Let's Prove It! by AqRiUsAge(f): 6:38am On Apr 27, 2010 |
platinumnk:yikes! whatever works, I guess nike4luv:Um, if you did a full head, yeah. Or if you did lacefront. Otherwise, (assuming you've got black hair,) it certainly wont blend in unless you straighten it. You dont have to chemically treat it, you could just flat iron it and wrap it to keep it straight when you're at home. |

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Why dont you just get a wig? |
Re: Black Hair Does Grow. Let's Prove It! by nike4luv(f): 1:22pm On Apr 27, 2010 |
wigs give me headache! alot of people are using lace wigs everywhere now! whats going to happen to my store of extensions . i think il straighten it but it goes back curly thats the problem. It will work if i just close it up though right? no leaving my hair anywhere?! i think i might turn to gel now because it wont stay if i leave some of my hair in front. |

^very full n cute . is it shrunken? |
Re: Black Hair Does Grow. Let's Prove It! by platinumnk(f): 7:07am On Apr 29, 2010 |
Thanks O! yeah it is, i took the pics right after i rinsed it as i get better slippage when its soaking wet, but the shrinkage isnt as bad as before, the stuff im using has loosened the curl a bit but not in a bad way, it made it way more manageable. u should tha fro have seen it before it cut it, people thought it was a wig lol |

i personally just went from natural to relaxer for the second time, I found natural much more stressful cause the texture of my hair was not pleasant, Truth be told one can grow ur hair both ways, i.e. natural or relaxed, my hair was destroyed at the back from relaxing (the first time) and so i decided to cut it and go natural, now after about 5 years i went back to relaxing and the hair on the back of my hair is very ok, i have a stylist that is helping me through my journey to longer hair, what the OP said is extremely true, i.e. taking care of ur relaxed hair and even natural hair is a LOT of work but once you find a routine that works its becomes easier, For me HOT OIL TREATMENT, is when u oil ur case and put on a shower cap or if u do it b4 bed a night cap and leave it to stem up, or u could see under a dryer only for a little while DEEP CONDITION- when you (after washing) put conditioner in ur hair and cover ur hair with a shower cap and either sit under a dryer or just leave for a while to stem up AVOID HEAT!!- too much heat is no good for ur hair, i remember i used to use hot comb every time i washed my hair (when it was natural) now that my hair is relaxed i have made a rule for myself to only use a flatiron once a month, and now i air dry my hair and it doesn't even take that long once more thing i wanna introduce, ( i dont kno if anyone already spoke about this) PROTEIN TREATMENT- the best way i can describe it is that u could use Motion's CPR and same as before, wrap ur hair and see under a dryer, this should be done about every 2-3 weeks, if anybody has questions feel free to ask, im sure there are others here who are also able to answer, ciao |
