woodcook:As we talking now, more Nigerians are dying because your politrickisns are stealing from them. Your ruling class has neither respect for you nor belief in Naija. Most of them have investments in the US or UK. They have their kids studying or working here. They either have green cards or citizenship by birth because they dont trust Naija and its hospital. US/UK is their guarantee home cos they know that Naija can self-destruct or implode at any time! 3 Likes |

woodcook:I don't know how long you have been in this section. If you see the names I have been called, you will be surprised. One thing about me is that I grew up in a place that was so tough that if you get punched and you turn the other cheek , you are forever doomed. I am a counter puncher. Some, I let slide. Some I have to give back with equal dose. That's just me and I thank God my wife don't come on nairaland . |

BigIyanga: You are right I can't counter your claims. But the truth remains that among league of world class nations US is an example of how a developed nation shouldn't be ran. The other truth is that if the US should focus all that energy of trying to beat other nations in shape (Iraq, Syria, Libya etc) into fixing the US the ordinary joe in the US could boast of same rights and benefits as those in other developed nation. What I can't figure out is how your government were able to get away with it, with smart and enlightened people like you all! 1 Like |

BigIyanga:I was talking to a friend yesterday in Nigeria, he just informed me his wife will be in Chicago to have his second child in January. All the maternity expenses paid for in Nigeria. This is a very well to do insurance magnate that won't even allow his wife to birth in Nigeria due to obvious reasons. He would never say anything bad against US, but the 35 Thousand Naira salary earners are the ones that will demonize a country of US status. Whenever anything against America comes up, u will see them goes into mental organisms to out perform each other. 1 Like |

woodcook:I am with you about America's jingoism. Most Americans don't care for the worthless wars. I am very anti war because I sincerely believe that it is not the answer. I belong to a peace group and we are regularly called peaceniks. I hate war with every blood in my body hence I don't get into all the military superiority stuff. 1 Like |

Lucasbalo: hahaha yourself get bad mouth gan. 35k salary earners, that got me. That your friend did not bad mouth US does not mean that he isn't thinking otherwise, I am sure the last election rings a bell. You should realize that most that bad mouth the US is as a result of you folks thinking that you are better than everyone. How many times have you seen folks that live in Europe on this forum robbing it in on people's face? |

stanech:Do not forget that your non tax paying Trump is one of the reasons the deficit went up. That's why people like you who have no clue about America will go into right wing blogs and pull out some some craps. Obama will still be a topic of positive discussions hundred of years to come. I doubt if any of you his detractors will be talk about a year after y'all demise. Something to ponder about. 1 Like |

woodcook:I know this will be hard for you to believe. I have deep love for Nigeria hence I wish her the best by critiqueing the leadership. My problem is not Nigerians, my gripe is the morally bankrupt, worthless corrupt and inept leadership. Am used to Nigeria and I visit my parents all the time since they retired back to Nigeria. Will be in Lagos in 3 weeks with my whole crew to spend the Xmas with my parents. I want the best for Nigeria the same way I want the best for US. I can only imagine what will happen in US if the kind of looting that's happening in Nigeria occurs here. People should stand up to the leadership through civil protests and if not, Nigeria will be doomed. |

woodcook:You're making baseless accusations. Why are gay marriage and abortion in US of grave concern to most Naija, but sectaranian violence and corruption arent? Why do most Nigerians think that they're more morally upright than average American simply because they're religious? How many times do you want to introduce Naija way of thinking into EU way of thinking? Naija folks in diaspora send close to $30bn/yr which is greater than our national budget, Naij folks in the US contribute a huge chunk of that. If you have travelled globally, you will understand that no country as potentially blessed as Naija is retrogressively messed up like Naija. Dont cite Somali and South Sudan as comparisons. |

Lucasbalo: I do't doubt you, because if you don't have Nigeria best interest at heart, you sure won't be saying anything about it. Nigeria is f'ed your ascertion about how corrupt and bad things are and how they could be better is right on. But personally I will always defend my country if you know what I mean that does not mean that I support the moral decay in our system. 1 Like |

woodcook:I will defend Nigeria too for obvious reasons. I remember few years ago when that email fraud was going on. My colleagues at work always called my attention to it that your people are trying to scam Americans. I defended Nigerians very vigorously and if it happens again, will do the same thing. What bothers me is that Nigeria is suppose to be the pride of not only Africa but the whole black race. The more people get in the face of the worthless leaders the better things will get. People getting bags of rice and cooking oil and eating crumps that falls of the dining tables of the elites wouldn't stop Nigeria's problems. 1 Like |

BigIyanga: I think you are just getting over-heated over nothing. Go back and read my conversation with Lucas. I never said criticizing US and her social issues were morally right. What I said was that if you turn your eyes away from the social issues plaguing US only to berate Nigeria on all that is wrong with them, then I have to call you out. I for one will never support corruption or anyway stand behind any form of evil or corrupt politician but what I will never do is sit and watch someone cajole my country. While you were trying to play 'I am better than you are' card what did I say? I pointed out the social issues in the US despite her wealth and fortune. By implication a man whose house is on fire does not go about chasing rat in the bush. 2 Likes |

Lucasbalo: Getting in the face of the worthless leaders isn't going to happen as long as the current arrangement still exist in Nigeria. You have to take into consideration that unlike the west where the biggest divide is political ideology, in which case I believe you can sway most people based on facts but in Nigeria the biggest divide is religion and if that does not work you play the ethnic card. I believe getting ride of religion and ethnic difference in order to form a unified front against the corrupt politicians is harder than it seems. No one cares about what any politician has to say or how he or she is going to fulfill a campaign promise, as long as a vote for him is doing in people of other fate or other ethnic group they are fine with it. It is a sad situation that will take a very long time to correct given that the current political arrangement does nothing but to perpetuate such reasoning. |

CFCman:He is a big insurance magnate in Nigeria. A lot of our friends will know him if I mention his name. He told me his wife lost her first child in one of the most expensive hospitals in Lagos Island due to negligence , hence he vowed to have his children in Chicago. Re: American Politics Lounge - Donald Trump Is US President-Elect ! by BigIyanga: 7:40pm On Nov 19, 2016 |
woodcook:You keep applying Naija thinking to US thinking. There are no social issues "plaguing" the US rather corruption is plaquing Naija. In the US,Hospitals arent running out of drugs because of social issues, but in Naija, people are dying because hospitals are running out of drugs due to corruption. Can we say that corruption is plaquing Naija? You keep taking it personally when in fact you started the comparison on morality grounds. I compared corruption and bad goverance, then you started talking about " you are better than me" narrative. Alluding to being more patrotic by suggesting that we're cajoling your country when in fact i stated facts about Naija. Btw, it's my country as well, so criticizing it doesnt make less a patroit neither does it make you less for defending it. 3 Likes |

BigIyanga: Did you just state that there is no social issues plaguing the US? That the hospital isn't running out of drugs does not mean that everyone has equal opportunity of getting the best medical care they deserve? That the US politicians are not corrupt as Nigerian politician does not mean that US political environment serves every US citizen fairly and justly. That the US educational system is among the best in the world does not mean that every US citizen has equal opportunity of obtaining quality education. That the US is not plagued with any social issues (according to you) does not mean that there are no people in the US living at the margins of society and forgotten by the very system that you praised so highly. We can go on and on. Take it or leave it US is still grappling with her social issues ( some of which in my opinion I would consider problem of 3rd world country). Criticizing Nigeria is an indication that you understand her problems and that you believe Nigeria could be better but berating Nigeria is different from criticizing her and the major problem is most times we are unable to pin point that fine line between constructive criticism and mockery (I am guilty of that as well). |

Lucasbalo: I wish we could, like you pointed out Nigeria is blessed with everything any nation could ever asked but alas Nigeria could pass for one of the worst place to live in. It is sad and demoralizing a times. Try having meaningful conversation with youths based on ideology and you will be surprised what they come up. I am sure you have seen enough on the forum already. I think we need total cultural change, I remember being in Kaval during the No/Yes vote last year in Greece. I was at the dinner table with my friend and the conversation during meal time with her parents and siblings were about the vote. Everyone presented their case on whom to vote for and why. Their mom had a different opinion and I watched quietly how my friend was able to convince the mom otherwise. The mom based her positions on facts and what she thinks a yes vote means for Greek people.I visited many families and one thing I noticed was that political discussions take center stage no matter the age group and people try as much as they can to interpret what their vote means for the Greeks. They were not all necessary correct but the fact that young people are having meaning and logically conversations about their future based on substance not based on frivolous reasons (Not our young men that will gather around 'bottles' to discuss who is doing who!). Everywhere we go bars, school you see youth (the old ones were not left out) discussing about their future with regards to the vote based on facts, analyzing papers and positions of leading Greek academia as per the votes. Come to Nigeria during the 2015 election and you hear people talk about how someone was a muslim, or how anyone as long as it not a particular candidate. I think it is time families started inculcating the habit of critical thinking among their kids. It is time families should start having meaningful conversation at homes. Most families would rather spend hours everyday chanting religious prayers against unseen enemies rather than engaging their wards on stimulating conversation. I may be wrong but I think that the best place to start cleaning the rots in our country Nigeria is at the family level, the biggest impediment to that is that most head of the family are as 'blind' as their ward. |
