Reigning World player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentina and Barcelona ace Lionel Messi and German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer have been selected as the final three for the 2014 Fifa Ballon D'or award.

Ronaldo is favourite for the award after scoring 51 goals last season to help Real Madrid win the Uefa Champions League. He has also started this season in blistering note, scoring 20 goals in 12 La Liga games so far.

Lionel messi on the other hand didn't have the best of times in the 2013-14 season but won the best player award at the Brazil 2014 World Cup. He has enjoined a good run of form in recent weeks setting new goals scoring records in both the Spanish La Liga and the Uefa Champions League.

German World Cup winning goalkeeper is bidding to be only the second goalkeeper after Lev Yashin in 1963 to win the coveted prize.

In the women category, German Nadine Kessler, Marta of Brazil and Abby Wambach of the USA are to justle for the best female player of the year. While Real Madrids Carlo Ancelloti, Germany World Cup winning coach Joachim Low and Atletico Madrids Diego Simeone were shortlisted for the best coach of the year..COM

The Award ceremony is slated for Zurich, Switzerland on the 12th of January 2015.
