MOSCOW, December 3.
Russia and Nigeria have signed a memorandum on interaction and cooperation between their security councils, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev’s spokesman Igor Shvytkin said Wednesday.
The document was signed at a meeting between Patrushev and Nigerian presidential national security advisor Sambo Dasuki.
“The document is called upon to become a basis for regular dialogue between the sides on different aspects, including in the sphere of international and regional security,” Shvytkin said.

Switching from one puppet master to another? Enough of this game! Nigeria should try as much as possible to remained neutral. We can't sacrifice the friendship of the US for Russia or verse versa. We are to weak for that. Try and maintain a balanced relationship with the world powers, East and West alike. If we have no other choice then you can go for Russia.

I was surprise Nigeria even take a stance in the UN against Russia pertaining this Ukrainian crisis. This may come back to hunt us in future, Nigeria have also many times voted with the US and Israel. What if in future we will have no choice but to turn to Israel enemy for help?(Like Iran) Since both the US and Israel have failed us. All these little things can hunt us in future. Even China a key ally of both Russia & the West maintained neutrality on sensitive issues like the Ukrainian crisis.

.......this is what it takes to grab the bull by the horn in International politics, this paradigm shift still at the embryonic stage may eventually set Nigeria on a collusion course against the United States but it is certain Nigeria will become better for it on the longrun. The foreign policies of America has never favoured any developing Nations of the world, especially African countries.....this I know. Good one there Nigeria.

but the acquisition of lethal equipment to prosecute our war against terror concerns us. In the international system there is no permanent friend or enemy there is only a permanent interest and a nation should be guided by that interest in making her decisions. If the US cannot be a good friend at this time, then lets go Russia

My stance is: we can do good business with whoever we like without being confrontational.
It's called "good political maturity".

Come to think of it even UK is friends with Russia, Germany, China etc despite being best friends with USA.

I'm sure this is a decision too significant to make the Americans reconsider their stance....With the recent scramble for the soul of Africa(a contest between USA & China),and the strategic role Nigeria plays in the region, the USA is unlikely to lose the support of Nigeria to an arch enemy.

It's a welcome development. Nigeria sure has options.
