WHY GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI IS NOT GOOD FOR THE INTEREST OF NIGERIA


Buhari has used his fulani ethnicity and professed religion so effectively that he is seen the saviour of Nigeria especially our people in the north. Being the most audacious in the north claiming to be incorrupt and having a military background some individuals think he is the best person to lead this nation. Looking at the Boko Haram menace, the opposition are blaming Jonathan for the national security threat as his problem, rather than a national threat. Buhari has been the most anti- government, anti-Jonathan and anti-PDP, now most people see him positively or otherwise as a Boko Haram sponsor. After his lost in the last election a post-election crisis broke out which claims the lives of many Nigerians and serving coppers which he hasn’t condemn till date.

Furthermore, he has been inciting his supporters with statements that could lead to anarchy and that's a threat to our cherished democracy and unity of Nigeria, he is one of the active opposition against the government approach to Boko haram insurgency saying government should stop killing Boko Haram and also the major critic of the Nigerian army. It is my desire that Nigerians will see beyond religion and ethnicity come 2015 elections and vote the right person. Buhari has contested for some series of time yet nothing meaningful by way of policy from him in terms of economy and security.

Unfortunately, some uninformed individuals are deluded that if Buhari comes in as President, corruption would cease. That is like expecting snow in the desert, which can never happen naturally. Buhari actions have shown to the informed Nigerians that he is a hypocrite not like the way his cohorts and his unanalytical supporters portray him to be a saint.

The real secret behind the December 31st 1983 coup that ousted the civilian government and the scandal of the N2.8 billion NNPC money that got stolen under his watch as Petroleum Minister and head of NNPC in 1978. The public pressure was so intense under Shehu Shagari government that took over from the military, organised a senate probe which traced the money to a London Midland bank account belonging to Buhari from where the money got missing again. The then senate majority leader and chairman of the senate probe panel, Dr Olusola Saraki revealed this in an interview with Vera Ifudu of NTA. When Vera reported this she was sacked immediately by NTA, but she went to present her case on wrongful dismissal in the court and regain her job. Late Saraki till his death never denied what he told Vera. She was later settled with a big pay to gain her silence.

The pressure on the government then by the public was so intense to release the report of the probe continued during the second republic. After all arrangement to release the probe report (indicting Buhari over the missing money) after Christmas and New Year holiday of December 1983 and January 1984, but on December 31st 1983, Buhari conveniently struck a coup that ousted Shehu Shagari. Supporters of Buhari believe what you want to believe its a free world.

His first action and his cohorts after the coup was to ransack the senate and destroy documents relating to N2.8 billion probe and then they followed with the arrest of vibrant politicians on account of corruption, with facts that there was serious corruption at that time. Buhari jailed politicians and people consider threats to their government without rule of law. Many innocent people were simply jailed and wasted. People like Professor Ambrose Ali, Bisi Onabanjo, the former governor of old Bendel state and Ogun state respectively they didn’t last long after they were released before their demise, people have written on the ill treatment of how politicians from north and south were treated by Buhari, Shagari was under house arrest and Alex Ekwueme locked in Kirikiri Maximum prison.

What the Nigerian people should know is that the whole events surrounding the N2.8 billion were part of a conspiracy of corruption against Nigerians. Why every top official was covering it up was because it was the money stolen by the military as their ransom payment for allowing the General Olusegun Obasanjo civil rule programme of the second republic, because of the commitment they had made upon the overthrow of General Yakubu Gowon and international pressure to return to civil rule, they knew they had no choice but to go so the N2.8 billion was their ransom Obasanjo, Buhari, T.Y Danjuma, Shehu Yar’Adua, IBB, Aliyu Gusau and all the militery top officials at that time were in it. The incoming civilians new it, except Obafemi Awolowo who was dreaded for his uncompromising stance. That was the reason Buhari raided Awolowo’s house at that time, because they wanted to be sure he didn’t have anything to indict them. The only reason the civilian government set up the probe was because of pressure from the public so the military under Buhari saw it as a breach of their agreement to look the other way and from a nod from Obasanjo and Shehu Yar’Adua, Buhari and his cohorts struck and declared their government “ an offshoot of the murtala-Obasanjo administration”.
