Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3-4).

For the Christian, water baptism by immersion is important, and its significance shouldn’t be overlooked. Our opening scripture tells us exactly the significance of water baptism: it’s a testimony of your faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When you’re dipped into water in baptism, you're declaring that you’ve identified with Him in His death and burial. When you’re brought out of the water, it's symbolic of His resurrection; you’re thus affirming that you now walk in newness of life. Glory to God!

Moreover, water baptism marks your final separation from the world. When the children of Israel passed through the Red Sea on dry ground, it was symbolic of water baptism. The Bible says they did it by faith (Hebrews 11:29). 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 tells us that they were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea: “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea.”

When they went through the water and came out on the other side, the Egyptians tried to do the same, but they were buried in the water; they all died. At that point, the children of Israel were separated from Egypt; the Red Sea was their final separation. In the same way, water baptism marks your final separation from Egypt, which is a type of the world.

This is why every Christian must be baptized in water; it's a symbol of salvation, but not in the same sense as the salvation of taking away your sins; it's the salvation of a good conscience towards God. 1 Peter 3:20-21 says, “…God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure where unto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You are very right about the importance of baptism in water.

I want to explain the aspect of "the salvation of taking away your sins". As you rightly stated, when a person is dipped into water in baptism, it ia a declaration that s/he has identified with Him in His death and burial. When the person is brought out of the water, the person affirms that he has resurrected with Jesus and now walks in newness of life. The problem is that baptized Christians do not go on to walk in newness of life as their baptism affirmed. Why? It is due to insufficient knowledge. Pastors and evangelists do not guide baptized Christians adequately. Walking in newness of life (or resurrecting with Jesus Christ) means reversing the fall of man.

Ge. 2:9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground — trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The key to reversing the fall of man can be seen in the Garden of God. The fruit of the tree of life makes a human being holy; whereas the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil makes a human being to be sinful. Through Adam, we all ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. The only way to reverse the fall of man is by eating the fruit of the tree of life. Where do we get it? In the holy of holies, because God is the tree of life. It is only by the blood of Jesus Christ that a human being can enter the spiritual holy of holies. And only a priest of God can enter the holy of holies by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Ex. 40:12 “Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
Ex. 40:13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so that he may serve me as priest.

Christian baptism in water is induction into the priesthood of God. After water baptism, the Christian should be dressed with sacred garments (holiness). Once a person becomes a priest of God through water baptism, the person can easily enter the spiritual holy of holies by pleading the blood of Jesus Christ during prayer. This will usher the person into the presence of God (the tree of life). The person will then ask God to give him the Holy Spirit (the fruit)--Lk 11:13. The person should also pray that God strengthens him with power in the inner being through the Holy Spirit (Eph 3:17). Every time a person prays this way, s/he is anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power (Acts 10:38). The person can now put to death sins in his heart through the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:13). The person can easily uproot and tear down sinful habits from his life, destroy and overthrow sins from his life, and plant and build up righteousness in his heart (Je 1:10); all through the power of the Holy Spirit. The person does all these only through words of faith.

Ro. 1:17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, [Or is from faith to faith] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Summary of my earlier Post

• The proper way for a person to give her/his life to Jesus Christ, or to receive Jesus Christ into her/his life, is by baptism in water, preceded by a determination to live in accordance with the word of God—repentance.

Jn. 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
Any person who has been baptized into Jesus Christ has been given the right to become like God. In order to become like God, a person should spend time with God as first thing every morning, just like Jesus Christ did while he was here on earth. In order to enter the presence of God, you plead the blood of Jesus Christ.

• When you spend time with God, the most important thing that you will ask for is that God gives you the Holy Spirit. Also ask God to strengthen you with power in your inner being through the Holy Spirit. You need to be anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power every morning, so that you could go about doing good (Act 10:38).

• Armed with the Holy Spirit and power, you can put to death every sin in your life by the Holy Spirit:

I plead the blood of Jesus Christ against every sin in my life. In the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I put to death every sin in my life by the Holy Spirit of the Most High God.

• As you receive the Holy Spirit everyday and put to death sin in your life by faith, you will see your life transforming. As the transformation proceeds, you will see that when you pray over sickness, the sickness will be healed. The journey to glory continues from there.

• Conclusion then is that when a person is properly baptized into Jesus Christ in water, the person is already a new creature (born again). It is a faith thing. Through proper practice of faith, the new life manifests in reality.
