Federal government, yesterday, disclosed that it was working on a plan to ensure 50 percent reduction in flight ticket for all Nigerian students, who desire to travel by air. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Matters, Comr. Jude Imagwe, who revealed this at inauguration of the Students' Union Government, University of Abuja, held at Gwagwalada Mini-Campus, said the initiative was part of the government's efforts to make live meaningful for students. He explained that government would work with all air carriers in the country to consider any identified student, who chooses to board their plane by not collecting the same amount collected from the working class. Speaking on the possibility of the idea tagged; 'I Fly Student' in the country, Imagwe expressed optimism that if the idea could work in Ghana, therefore, "it will also work in Nigeria." The SSA maintained that the on-going transformation in youth development sector of the present administration was more than a mere political rhetoric and superficial, calling on other tiers of government, as well as policy makers to ensure realization of all efforts geared towards youth and women empowerment. "There should be genuine efforts on the part of policy makers to promote equitable growth, generate employment, raise incomes, improve agricultural production, promote and expand informal sector livelihood," he charged. The SUG President, Comr. Olajengbesi Pelumi said it would be a great joy for all students in the country, if the government and the people of Nigeria could use all the zeal and courage demonstrated in tackling Ebola Virus Disease in the country to solve problem in the education sector. |
