A Day In Life Without Technology by BrainnewsNg(f): 8:13pm On Dec 18, 2014 |
The world is becoming a single global village and technology has been the singular most powerful force for the revolutionary change. Even from Shakespearean assertion that the entire world’s a stage, has taken on an interesting new twist in meaning. However, the growing effect of technology has become increasingly evident; it is not amazing because of the rate by which new technologies spread across global market. Many people will not dispute the fact that a day in life without technology is like living off the grid, perhaps boring. The reason is not far fetch, because technology has become everyday’s application as more and more people are gaining knowledge on how to make use of the communication tools to empower their ways of living and staying informed on the current technology to avoid being left behind. New technologies are being developed daily which shows that the industry will continue to grow and expand. People will continue using these technologies to improve their standards and to stay informed. To show that we cannot do without technology in a day in life, it has influenced us in so many positive ways, from providing cell phones that can be used in the house, around the world and also provide so many other great features. With technology advancing every day, the market comes out with new phones with latest styles. For example, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. Aside new phones, exotic cars with new features have now bombard the global market, such as; Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche Cayman, Kia Cerato and others. Also latest digital cameras and other unknown sophisticated electronics made of technology are not exempted. Infact most of us are so used to the technology we use in our modern life that we don’t even think about it. A room is well lit at the flick of a switch, we can talk to anyone in the world immediately and see news as it happens around the globe, food is kept fresh in refrigerators or mass produced sealed packages, clothes are mass produced and available to buy in air conditioned shopping malls, and our waste products are either flushed down the drain or collected and carted away. Most of us are dependent on this technology –we can’t imagine a day in life without technology, because technology has become part and parcel of everybody, hardly we can escape from the power of technology. Even getting to know about latest Samsung and other products is through the power of technology. This shows that majority of people have become tech users at least. Personally, I have become technology dependent, so much that I often fail to realize it and I belief it is happening to almost everyone. As a result, a day without technology is like spiral back to the ages of using a string and a cup between windows to talk to our next door neighbours, rather than logging into our face book, twitter, or live messenger accounts. Infact technology has shown a major impact on our overall sense of living and that is the basis of our global society. It is pertinent to also note that, communication is a big part of our lives and as software has continued to advance, the world has become smaller. This been due to the fact that technology has enabled us to stay in contact with friends and families, wherever we may find ourselves in the world. From the above illustration, a day in life without technology is like denying ourselves an effective means of communication. Though we have other means of communication, but not as fast as product of modern technology. Aside the aspects of daily communication, the so-called gadgets in many homes are product of technology, even power supply still fall under technology. Assuming a day without electricity, life seems to be discouraging to many people. Anyway am not amazed because in Nigeria, we have witnessed cases of several days and months of power failure. Also, we should not forget that it is as a result of technology that brought about civilization, otherwise called a modernized world. So a day in life without technology can be likened to a dog going back to his vomiting point unexpectedly. if we take a critical look at foreign broadcast for example, which is as a result of technology, their content are entirely foreign and the materials relayed are packaged from foreign perspective thereby affecting the values, norms, way of thinking, attitudes, behaviour, and dressing style of many audience. As a result, most audience have been brainwashed and mesmerized with those foreign materials brought as a result of technology. This is not surprising because in Canada, a report indicates that between 1976 and 1996, there has been 270% increase in the rate in which young children stay close to television, especially foreign media, as a result of technology. From the above statistics, it shows that children nowadays cannot do without watching television in a day. That is, many people cannot do without making use of technology in an hour; talk less of a whole day in life. So a day in life without technology is like going back to the olden days at the detriment of technology or is like denying ourselves a world of entertainment. Definitely, life will be so hectic, To cut the whole discussion short, it will be improper to under estimate the power of technology in a single day, so also activities seems to be dull in a day in life without technology.
