Aregbesola Didn’t Interfere In Osun Primaries, Says Aide by Drniyi4u(m): 9:30pm On Dec 25, 2014 |
Insinuations that the choice of Senator Babajide Omoworare as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun-East Senatorial District, was forced on the people of the zone by the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has been described as fallacious and a desperate attempt to mislead people and impugn on the character of the governor.A senatorial aspirant from the district, Mr. Sola Lawal, had made the accusation in the media. Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Governor’s Office, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, said available facts indicate that Lawal’s allegations have no substance, but only a calculated attempt at discredit-ing the processes that led to the emergence of APC candidates in Osun. He said Aregbesola stands tall asan advocate of democratic ethos, noting that Lawal’s accusation amounts to a failed attempt at rubbishing the democratic credentials of the governor. Okanlawon said since Lawal commenced what he called a media ‘war’ accusing Governor Aregbesola of “upturning his victory” and exhibiting bias for Senator Omoworare, he had watched patiently hoping the shenanigan would stop. He added that unsuspecting members of the public might be misled should he be left unchecked. He stressed that contrary to Lawal’s claim that he polled 17 votes to defeat Omoworare who, according to him, scored just three votes, he demanded how could a primaries consisting of the whole of the Ife and Ijesa axis be decided by just 20 people? Okanlawon said: “Some leaders in the senatorial district were saddled with the responsibility of screening aspirants for the senatorial seat. How then can a screening exercise become a party primaryelection? How can 20 people dictate who will represent the people? “How can there be a primary election to choose a senator from a district where the governor hails from and the governor was unaware of such a primary election? How did about 20 people arrive at any decision without any of the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government party chairmen, local government executive secretaries, all members of the executive council from the Ife/Ijesa zone and all other stakeholders acrossthe senatorial district?” queried.Speaking on how other senatorial candidates emerged, Okanlawon explained that screenings were done for aspirants by leaders drawn from each of the senatorial districts before primaries were conducted. He noted that the former governor of the state, Senator Isiaka Adeleke (Osun West) and the incumbent, Senator Sola Adeyeye (Osun Central), emerged from primaries that were conducted by party leaders, APC party chairmen, executive secretaries, former cabinet members and other stakeholders across the senatorial districts. source: http://newtelegraphonline.com/aregbesola-didnt-interfere-in-osun-primaries-says-aide/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+newtelegraphonline%2FGKzz+%28New+Telegraph%29 |
