This is a policy that shld hve been effected since time immemorial to bridge the income inequality in Nigeria. Guess this oil price decline is a blessing in disguise. However, this fiscal policy is not enough. Government also need to cut spending by slashing the excessive pay of the legislature, executive, and some senior civil servants and also reduce the numbers of PAs and SAs (most of them are jst leakages in the economy). That's all. 1 Like |

Good decision, but the problem is, when the Nigerian economy has stabilized, those things would still be in place and the money would be stolen, AGAIN! |

It'll end up screwing the poor and the middle-class. When politicians who do not know the history of taxes and do not have credible financial intelligence are burdened with fiscal policies, everything comes spiraling down. I won't say much. Let everyone review their financial habits, preparing for imminent hard times. |

Ngozi okonjo is far from reality. She doesn't live in nigeria. What law has ever caught up with the high and mighty of our society. People Deceiving People. They are at it again. They have perfected their game of deception. Tell me, tell me where a big man has ever been held by the law in nigeria. The law is made only for the defenceless. The law is never made for the rich. We have good policies but bad implementors.. Taxing the rich is a Good policy but who implements it? The GEJ administration? Doyin Okupke? Labaran Maku? Who taxes the rich and how? Nigerians should brace for a hard time, because this is a deceptive way of Ngozi saying to us all that the poor would still pay for the expenses of the rich. Since they can't put it in that terms, they would clearly speak the reverse mode or talk in irony. Nigeria has beautiful policies on paper but only ends on paper. Our implementors of policies have failed us. Too many think-tanks but not one good leader. 1 Like |

Coming from a President that has 8 jetss in his fleet, rides in a 50plus car convoy, awards over inflated and poorly worked contracts to his pals, imported 750'k stoves from south Africa for 9.3 billion naira barely 1 week after devaluing the naira ignoring the thousands of clean efficient energy prototypes that are covered with dust in our universities.. A president that still can't account for 20 billion dollars of our money that the NNPC mismanaged.. A president that failed to fix our refineries in the last 6 yrs yet raised 20 plus billion for his re election.. A president that announces austerity measures yet budgets 4billion Naira for food and travels.. A president who sells our crude and banks the money in American banks that is neither controlled by the ministry of finance nor the nnpc nor the cbn. Please I give up.. APC is where I stand.. 6 Likes |

Luxury tax my foot. How many people in Nigeria have Dom perignon stashed casually in their fridge or consume Moet to the extent that taxing them now seems a viable means of generating revenue? Which local airlines have first class seating that is worth taxing before they assert that poor Nigerians only fly economy? VAT increase will affect every single citizen and reduce our spending power, with definitely no increase in income in the foreseeable future. Reduce the aircraft in presidential fleet, reduce salaries and allowances of the legislature at federal level, dovetail duties of MDAs with duplicate functions and wind down the others. The above I listed is just to curtail waste from the government's point of view before they descend on the hen-pecked Nigerian citizenry as usual. 1 Like |

But capital budget for developmental projects is only N633bn i.e 25% of both capital and recurrent expenditures Recurrent budget for political jobbers is N2.616tn i.e 75% of both capital and recurrent expenditures. So how can Naija develop when we spend 75% of resources on salaries of politickricians and workers? |

The rich Nigerians pay more and that money is shared among the rich Nigerians again. No hope for the common man going by the way our leaders rule us. Imagine them not paying workers yet they the leaders got their pay to the last kobo which may be more what they owe their workers BTW. |
