STILL THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX
NIGERIA’S SURVIVAL: ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS TO BOLAJI AKINYEMI
As a patriot, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi is worried. He is in serious pain for this country. He is agonizing for the palpable calamity that could spin off our next general elections. He therefore suggested a way out. His hypothesis is that if the two leading candidates –GEJ and GMB- signed a code of standard ethical campaign and post election behavior supported by some eminent leaders, the disaster may be averted. I do not disagree with his postulation.
However, I wish to present alternate hypothesis: That next year election be postponed for two years under national emergency after which GEJ will not be allowed to contest. Then we must put together immediately a national war council with GMB as the Chairman to defeat Boko-Haram. Let us save our nation and secure her future first before seeking electoral victory for any politician. The trajectory of the present process is apocalyptic.
Posers: Can there be meaningful election in the north east? Is INEC capable of conducting presidential election that will be acceptable to all in this circumstance? Will victory to one side not escalate the problem on the other side? Can any leader develop a country in turmoil? Is two years too long to sacrifice for peace and stability?
Well we may end up with interim unity government at the end of the tunnel, which will not be too bad. Let us pray......Amen
