Daily Independent reports that the senatorial candidate succumbed to pressure from prominent and opinion leaders across Edo North Senatorial district to vie for the Senate seat on the platform of the SDP after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fred Omoigberai, the Director-General of Abubakar Momoh’s campaign organisation noted that his decision to dump the PDP for the SDP after the flawed party primaries, was done in accordance with the wishes of his numerous supporters, critical stakeholders and well wishers across Edo North district.

Omoigberai said the SDP platform provides opportunity for the Etsako people, whom he presently represents at the National Assembly, adding that the SDP also see it as a favour to have Momoh at the Senate on its platform.
He said the party will appreciate him with their votes during the election to move up for his genuine performance in office, which saw him influencing about 70 projects to the 32 wards in his constituency.
