17 people where killed in a terrorist attack that targeted French cartoonists, aiming to silence them forever. Its the bloodiest terrorist attack on the French soil in decades.
France as a whole was shocked, their president visited the scene, made speeches, and continued to grant interviews as the manhunt for the terrorists lingered.
Tens of thousands for French people gathered in rallies to show solidarity for the slain victims and support for freedom of speech.
Countries around the world sent in delegates to join the unity march, flowers, tears, comments a d interviews were present in thousands.
But right on the same day, boko haram had attacked baga in Nigeria, sacked the military baracks protecting the town and slay 2000 of its citizens.
But no one talks about it. People all over the world have been unhappy about the poor coverage and under reporting by media around the world.
People around the world have always wanted to know why . As a Nigerian who have closely followed bboth stories, I would attempt to give reasons .

1. There was no video footage:
unlike the terrorist attack in France where amateur footage by neighbours captured the graphic scene of the execution of the police man by the terrorists, the Nigerian boko haram massacre had no video footage. No one knows exactly what happened there.

2. Disparity in figures: Nigeria media was reporting that 2000 people died in the attack , but the Nigerian art has come out to say that the death toll is not up to 150. They pointed out that during the exchange of fire between bOko haram and the military, residents of the town had escaped I to neighboring towns.

3. Nigerians didn't hold rallies for the dead:
Basically, its not double standards. Nigerians didn't hold any rallies in solidarity for the victims, so the world didn't attend.

4. It happens everyday in Nigeria since November 1 2009:
Since that fateful date that bOko haram detonated their first bomb during the celebration of Nigeria's independence it has been a blood bath. Massacre after massacre. Bombings , razing of worship places and so on. Every blessed day, their is one more sad news to hear. Nigerians no longer consider boko haram bloodshed as 'breaking' news. Its common place.
The good thing is that the federal government troops have succeeded restricting the boko haram attacks to 3 States out of the 36 states in Nigeria.

5. its no longer a spontaneous single unit terrorist attack: its a coordinated rebellion. Where the rebels have captured some small towns , marked it as a caliphate and imposed stricter sharia laws which includes the usual beheadings, stonings and rants on camera.

6. Nigerians are looking else where: Nigeria is one of the most difficult nations to rule on earth given that it is made up 150 million people with almost equal number of Christians and Muslims. The presidential poll for 2015 is close (Feb 14) and news of the elections and political rallies is what is making waves everywhere in now.

At this point "cluelessness" is now a compliment because apparently there has been no deliberate attempt to prove otherwise

@OP

You are over-intellectualising a simple matter. The world does not take Nigeria seriously because the perception is that Nigeria is not a serious or sincere Nation under GEJ and the PDP. The Chibok girls development has totally destroyed the credibility of GEJ and Nigeria in general. Don't forget the entire world had to watch as Nigerians themselves, mainly the supporters of President Jonathan, taunted the missing girls and their family by claiming "Chibok kidnapping a scam". The world has simply moved on from the insincerity of Nigeria because no one will continue caring for a people whose leader and government do not appear to care about them.

The citizens of France are confident that their rally will yield results. Are you aware of how many strikes, rallies etc that Nigerians have embarked on that still haven't resulted in any change? What's the point of rallying when you can be sure that the government won't put the issues into consideration or even figure out a permanent solution?

MODS, why is this not making fp, or are you not wondering why the world ignored us. Maybe if we can attract the attention of the world or even African nations, they will join us in flushing BH out of Nigeria.

I dont think this is a president/governor thing, In france all the citizens came out and marched in solidarity!
This encouraged other countries to visit or send delegates.
