Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Mr. Jimi Agbaje

Shola Oyeyipo

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has noted that most of the policies carried out by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State could have been better implemented to really meet the needs of Lagosians.

Agbaje, who spoke with journalists in a chat on Tuesday in Lagos, said though the APC-led government in Lagos State had recorded some successes in governance, his administration would work rigorously to ensure better living conditions for Lagosians, if he is elected.

“Though some good things have happened in Lagos; the GDP has grown about four times and the IGR has grown from N10bn in 1999 to nearly N400bn. But what has been the other side? Our borrowing has also increased and the burden of multiplicity of tax has been a burden on the people, but how much has government really done to improve the social condition of the people?

“May be the BRT meant to make transportation easier but while the concept was good, can you say the implementation has been the best? So you can’t say the people have benefitted. How can we say the government has impacted on the generality of people? We can’t say in the last eight years the government has been a progressive government in terms of health, education and welfare of the people.

“Waste disposal is better than before – Lagos metropolis is cleaner but how many of us have water running in their pipes at home? So the people have not seen the benefit of the social aspect of this government,” he stated.

While he said his government would pay considerable attention to security, health and education, the PDP governorship hopeful said: “We want to have a Lagos that is populated by educated, highly skilled and people living in prosperous places in the state. No society can develop where security, health and education are not correct.

“I’m bringing about development. We are talking bold ideas. So, in terms of education, we are saying we don’t want to continue to produce mediocre. The 14 per cent of the budget being spent on education is not enough. At a time, Awolowo did up to 40 per cent and it is why the West had a head start in education. Then 82 per cent of its (Lagos State) educational budget is spent on recurrent. There is no way you spend such and expect education to be right,” he said.

While he emphasised that “we are not changing the wheel,” Agbaje said, if voted as Lagos State governor, “we will bring new ideas into the way things are done.”

Lagos Needs Liberation:

Liberation from godfatherism

Liberation from stealing our money and privatizing our common wealth (Alpha Beta, TVC, The Nation Newspaper, The Nation Airline etc.)

Liberation from one man dictation who rule in Kosofe, Mushin, Agege. Ikorodu, Badagry, Epe and the entire state.

Liberation from taking debt running into billions of naira (Bonds, Loans etc) despite the huge IGR and share from Federation account with little or nothing to show for it.

Liberation from one man placing his family members in ALL available position at the detriment of other good people of Lagos.

Liberation from running a secret cult like government, where they refused to domesticate Freedom of Information (FOI) bill, for Lagosians to ask question for the said progressive government.

Liberation from a party who never sees anything wrong in their own system but continue to castigate others.

Liberation from a lying party who increase LASU fee from 25,000NGN to 300,000NGN but reduce it back to 25,000NGN because election is coming with plan to increase again after winning election.

Liberation from a lying party who provided safety gears for Okada men prior to 2011 election but turns around to ban okada after winning the election, now they have relaxed the rule because election is coming again.

Liberation from party who can tell naked lies without fear of posterity, they promised 4th Mainland Bridge, they promised Leki-Epe Airport, and many more projects, where are the projects

Liberation from a party who make deafening media noises of achievement that is not comparative with the resources at their disposal.

Indeed, Lagos needs liberation and come February 2015, LAGOS SHALL BE DELIVERED.

Shalom

So much money at Fashola's disposal but so little to show for it.I see Tinubu's kleptomaniac fingers everywhere in Fashola's govt.

Jimi I would have love to see your performance as a director general, a commissioner or probably a local government chairman.
This job is not for small boys and feeble minds, most of your utterances since this campaign started have left me wondering if you are actually ready for this job.

Good message but his campaign TEAM needs to have very short concise key phrases that are EXCITING while still true to reveal the FRAUD that has characterised the Association of Pretending Crooks, APC's 16 years of misrule in Lagos state.

Remove Tinubu from Lagos and the state will be liberated. You people do not understand the extent to which Tinubu has destroyed Lagos.

Tinubu is to lagos what Mobutu sese seko was to Zaire.

Let us vote out APC and usher in Jimi Agbaje.

What is expected of Jimi is to highlight the problems he sees and what he will do to change them.

Whether Jimi likes it or not, Lagos is APC's home turf. They have the structures and are backed by politicians who are dynamic and has been tested.

All these pointing fingers won't help him. Has he done one single campaign rally by himself tl even know his acceptance? People are sitting back and looking at Bode George and Ogunsewe behind him and they cringe.

Agbaje is not a politician. He is a Fashola and unfortunately for him, je has no politician with credibility behind him.

His loss is imminent and he needs to find a way to sway people. His latest outburst about how the south south will give us hell should GEJ loss ain't working for him.

He said Lagos has not benefitted but he forgets that in the last elections Fashola got the highest number of votes ever in one state which means the people love Fashola, Tinubu is another respected person he needs to find a way to pull people away from him.

His case is even worse that when Koro (mistakenly) took Agbaje and GEJ to visit the Oba of Lagos, the Oba told then flat that he has taken Ambode's name to Mecca and will be rooting for him. I saw Agbaje's reaction to the statement. He can have banners and talk online but he needs to go on the streets.

It is sad that Ambode has a higher chance of winning yet he is more on the road that Agbaje

I want to know how he is going to win, the market women, civil servant( Never hear them complain of Fashola), Agberos, Lasma, Kai, E.t.c are for APC. He should continue talking while Ambode should be doing the grass root campaigning, it will do him like film.

The same way Ribadu would have been a crown Governor of Adamawa awaiting coronation by now. Jimmy of those years is different from this Jimmy of 2015 and you can easily know from his Fayoseque utterances.

He is fast loosing the little support base he built in 2003 with his unguided utterances.

Ambode is busy campaigning and leaving no stone unturned on his way to Round house while Agbaje is still busy forming liverpool and believing his 2003 popularity and PDP will deliever the ticket to him.

Jimi Agbaje was live on Channels TV moments ago fielding questions via an online platform.

This man is without doubt a very brilliant man. If the election would be based on merit and what each candidate is bringing to the table, I don't see any other candidate holding a candle to Mr Agbaje.

Sentiments apart, he is on a different level.

Don't jump to conclusions till you hear Jimi Agbaje first hand.

You will remain misguided if you rely on reported news in which the possibility of being quoted out of context exists.

Furthermore, mischief makers have been unleashed to malign Mr Agbaje by any means conceivable.

See why i said Lagos state government is not utilising the huge funds available to it judiciously.

Here is the budget of Rivers vs Rwanda(Rwanda is doing fine as a country)

RWANDA
Population: 11 Million
GDP: $16 Billion
Budget: $1.67 Billion
Size: 23,000 SQ km

RIVERS STATE:
Population: 6 Million
GDP: $19 Billion+
Budget: $3 Billion+
Size: 12,000 Sq KM.

Check it out here and you will be amazed how we waste funds on frivolities in this country.

https://www.nairaland.com/1447940/rivers-state-vs-rwanda-why

I do not know Lagos state annual budget but i know it's budget is higher than those of rivers state and by extension Rwanda.

I listened to Jimi Agba today and I wasnt impressed, When he was asked by the girl that called in asking what his vision was for small business startups and if they can get govt loans.

Jimi's response was shallow and not well thought out. Fashola has raised the bar for governance in Lagos and very few can match that and certainly not Jimi Agbaje

Anyone who made such utterance about South SOuth would stop the economy if Jonathan doesnt win shouldnt even be anywhere near Lagos govt house
