Imo State Police Com­mand yesterday morning detonated a bomb plant­ed under a palm tree, 10 metres from Independent National Electoral Com­mission (INEC) office in the state.

An eyewitness account said a loud noise was heard from where the bomb was planted in front of the Owerri Capital Development Agency (OCDA), which sent workers scampering for safety

Spokesman of the state po­lice command, Mr. Andrew Enwerem (DSP), however, said the police got a tip-off and immediately swung into action. He confirmed that the Bomb Disposal Squad of the police detonated the bomb planted under a palm tree at the gate of Owerri Capital Development Authority office complex.


When Daily Sun visited the scene at about 11am yesterday, there was a heavy presence of policemen to cordon off the entire Owerri/Port Harcourt Road leading to INEC office.
