Looks like the rumour stating season 6 to be the last season of the vampire diaries has turned out to be false.
The Vampire diaries has been renewed by CW for the 7th season along with other shows like;
Arrow (season 4)
The flash (season 2)
The Originals (season 3)
Supernatural (season 11)
The 100 (season 3)
Reign (season 3)
Jane the virgin (season 2).

According to their producer TVD will b ending probably on season 7 or 8 at most. Also Geremy Gilbert will no longer b a regular on d show as from epi 17
