A new study finds sex is required for a strong
marriage - surprised?
As Marilyn Monroe once said, "We are all born
sexual creatures, thank God, but it's a pity so
many people despise and crush this natural
gift." A new study by researchers Adena
Galinsky and Linda J. Waite from the University
of Chicago says sex is key if partners want to
have a happy marriage . See what else the
study learned from hundreds of couples
interviewed.
When generating results, Galinsky and Waite
interviewed 732 couples all between the ages of
57 and 85. Each interview discussed sexual
frequency, psychological state and overall
satisfaction with marriage .
If you guessed that the married men and
women who had more sexual encounters with
their mate - not just intercourse - were happier,
you guessed right. For long term partners, the
inherent benefits of sex are obvious, but here's
a quick list:
For women, orgasms help strengthen the
pelvic floor which reduces bladder problems
Sex lowers the risk of heart attack in men
and women
Vaginal stimulation can block chronic back
and leg pain
Sex improves sleep
However, for the couples having less sex and
less frequent sexual encounters, this impacts
the couples sense of intimacy and ultimately
the satisfaction of their marriage.
The results of this study urged married couples
to protect their union by engaging in sexual
activity, especially later in life. According to
them, sex should still occur "even as health
problems render familiar forms of sexual
interaction difficult or impossible."
Galinsky's and Waite's research suggests that
caretakers and physicians should pay attention
to the sex life of older couples . This advice
does not mean paying attention to only sexual
health and the use contraceptives, but also
paying attention to the frequency of sexual
interactions or lack thereof.
This study goes to show that the more sex you
have the better you feel, especially as the body
progresses towards old age. It promotes health,
aids sleep and fights disease. Are there any
reasons an older couple should not be have
sex? According to this study, the answer is no.A new study finds sex is required for a strong
