My Discussion With An Okada Man by Nobody: 12:18pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
On my way to ogba yesterday, I boarded a commercial motorcycle. As I hopped on, I heard the okada man making a remark. "Ambode looks old o", was what he said as I saw him staring at an Ambode campaign poster pasted on a gate, which showed him putting on an Igbo outfit. I made him to understand that the man is quite young and that the reason he thinks otherwise is probably because of the attire he had on which had him looking more mature than his age. I pressed further to know how he feels about fashola's government, hoping to see whether his works in lagos is clearly enjoyed and accepted by commoners and to know whether what he has placed on ground is capable enough to pave way for another APC governor. I wasn't expecting an unbiased view since it was coming from an okada rider whose colleagues are known to dislike fashola's government for prevent them from plying major highways. The man said he's pleased with what the state government has done because the rate at which igbobi hospital receives victims of okada related accidents has reduced, which indicates that the government was only after their well-being. He also said that the rate of sane driving on lagos highways has increased due to the absence of the okada riders. He however said that he didn't like the way the government arrest and imprison his fellow okada riders in kirikiri because he believes it denies them the chance of holding public offices in future, adding that had it been fashola had such blemish, he won't have been able to ascend this high. Not sure whether what he said actually happens, I still tried to make him realise that they broke the law that's why they got punished. It can only be an injustice if they weren't tried in a court of law On the neatness in lagos, he said it can be attributed to the prohibition of roadside trading, because the traders not only dump refuse in drainages, they also dump by the road side and their closeness to the road causes traffic. When I asked him about next month's gubernatorial election in the state, he told me APC will win because he can see the level of development the party has brought into the state and also states like osun, ogun and oyo. He saide the people will vote for APC because they are already used to their style of governance as can be seen in the rate at which people adhere to the laws in the state. When I asked him about what he felt concerning the clamour for change in lagos state, he told me he doesn't see what change lagos needs but continuity. He pulled me into his biblical knowledge when he made mention of how the nation of Israel clamoured for a king but ended up with burden when they got one. He said PDP would have had a better point to prove concerning their change mantra had it been they didn't fail at the centre and also in most states they governed. All through my discussion with the okada rider, he spoke good english as he said APC should be giving a decade to rule in the federal and state level before we can conclude whether we just changed one devil for another 6 Likes |

Some okada men don't share this view, all they think about is the money they make on the highway as if money is more important than life. |

joe17:of what benefit is lying? You don't believe a discussion of a certain length you don't know of could hold on a moving bike? Well, no one expects you to believe. hushmail:on speed you say, as if we were on an highway. We were plying normal neighborhood roads and it was very early. Your failure lies in the fact that you didn't realize that placing his comment in writing can make it appear more than he spoke and you didn't care to ask for the distance and whether there was any need for speed which would've made the conversation difficult. 1 Like |

Were you the okada rider or what? One okada rider among hundreds of thousands in Lagos. You are not campaigning smartly, egbon mi. |

maestroferddi:you lack comprehension skills. The write up is about an okada man's view, I believe I drew no conclusion with that. Remember I said it is a believe that okada riders don't like fashola's government and we all know why, so understand that I drew no conclusion cos I couldn't get the view of other riders. 2 Likes |

@Op , ignore the bad belle people . If the Okada man had said he hated APC and will votes PDP they would have been here shouting about how the common man is fed up of APC in Lagos . Truth is people have a few complaints in Lagos but they recognize that overall APC has done a good job and they are not ready to do trial and error with Agbaje especially since he lacks public service experience . Also the fact that PDP hasn't impressed us at the centre makes the average man know that it is better to stick with APC. We don't want them to come and ruin the progress in Lagos . I'm impressed that even the Okada riders whom people thought will vote against APC for banning them from major roads can see that the policy is for the benefit of everyone and PDP is only making empty promises. Ambode will win the gubernatorial election by a landslide 2 Likes |
