I have had exactly the same argument with someone. Kwara State is about 80% muslim, so you'd naturally wonder how a Christian is the most powerful politician, especially with all the religious bickering in Nigeria.

Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Olusola Saraki, the Waziri of Ilorin, is a Muslim. He attends Jumaat at Oja-oba in Ilorin anytime he's in town. Didn't you guys read papers? Didn't you see him and Bukky's pictures in eid praying ground in newspapers the next day after last sallah? His wife is a Christian from Owo, Ondo state, though.
His children? I know his son, Governor Bukola Saraki, declares being a Muslim, prays the Muslim way, and attends jumaat and eid. His wife,Toyin from Ojora ruling family in Lagos, is a Christian, however.
His daughter, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, is the only one whose being a Muslim many Kwarans doubt. People say she takes to her mother's religion(i.e Christianity). But no official pronouncement about this. Officially, she claims to be a Muslim, but people says she's just saying that to gain acceptance among Ilorin people. The popular opinion is that she's a Christian. A few people also say Governor Bukola is also pretending, but this argument doesn't hold water, as Bukola has confirmed on many occasions that he's a Muslim.
But as regards Oloye himself, there is no controversy about it. In fact, one of the reasons why Laolu, another Saraki son, has not married was that the lady he presented earlier was a Christian and Dr. Olusola rejected her for being a Christian. He appears wanting to stop the trend of marrying Christian in his family.

Answer: Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki is incontrovertibly a Muslim. But his wife is a Christian. It is only in the case of his chidren(Bukola, Gbemisola) that controversy arises in Kwara as to their religion, but I'm personally convinced, from his actions, that Bukola is a Muslim, but Gbemisola??

most prominent Ilorin indigene are muslim but there wives are christain, for instance Saraki's wife is a christain, Idiagbon's is a deaconess in Redeemed Christian chirch of God, Gen Mohammed former Chief of staff to OBJ, his wife is also a christain, Also, Bukola Saraki religion is controversial because I learnt he got married in a church but political reality has made him a practising muslim, even Adisa's wife was going to Redeemed at a time but didn't know her status again, But above all Islam is a serious issue in Ilrorin so most people don't want to put themselves in unnecessary risk by sticking out their neck as christain

I think it will be safe therefore to say that the sarakis' are practicing Chrislam. . . . . It is the worst type of religion if you ask me

Dr. Olusola Saraki is incontrovertibly a Muslim. This is the first place I'll be hearing/reading Saraki being a Christian, and I have known and followed Saraki for almost two decades.I have lived in Kwara almost all my life and I belong to the Oloye School of politics. That Olusola Saraki is a Christian is the most non-sensical thing I've read in this Nairaland. It is outright lie. You may debate that of his children, but for Oloye himself, he's a confirmed Muslim. Take it or leave it.

That has really little or nothing to do with education, Last time I checked, Mike (Michael) Tyson is Muslim as well as Barrack Husein Obama is a Christian. I think people could convert between religions, so please don't blame it on the education system.

may i reveal to you the shocking news that there are christian Arabs etc.  the Arabic language should not be confused with Islam.

as per the topic - i think it's a shame people have to mask their religion just to go into the politics.
