Nigerian Army 'stealthily' Acquires New Armed Drones To Fight Boko Haram by skydancer1: 12:32pm On Jan 30, 2015 |
According to the Nigerian BEEG Eagle blog, a photo of an armed Chinese built CH-3 UAV drone crashed at Dumge Village in Borno and is not the only drone that has been acquired. While the army had obviously wanted this to be a surprise to Boko Haram, unmanned drones are not a common feat and the crash is not too surprising. Earlier in December Nigeria concluded plans to acquire JF-17 jets from Pakistan which cost about $20-25m a piece and also became the first country to buy it. With these new assets along with the newly arrived Mi-35p attack helicopters with Nightvision and joints efforts from Cameroon, Chad and the African Union, the question is no longer how long the Boko Haram will last, but whether this will be the end of insurgency in the Northeast.
