@topic: Nice move OP. I did voluntary jobs too when I was unemployed, it helped me stay afloat in my profession. I would advice that you look for organisations around you where you can conveniently walk to work and back without incurring transport cost.

Yes, make your email more professional, state your location and the area of business you're looking to intern with. Eg: video studios, newpaper houses, computer institutes etc
