New States Creation? by Flancey: 10:23am On Dec 31, 2008
Am perplexed by recent calls for more states creation in Nigeria.
Our Democratic system is very expensive. More states means more gov,
senators, reps, state houses of assembly, PAs, ect. And the list is endless.
These are more looters in the waiting. Do we need more hands to plunder
and steal our resources? Do we need more states?

Why should you allow your thoughts to be so scanty?
With the way nigerians, especially northerners could kill to see federal character and quota-system followed in every process, why should you be perplexed on why people are agitating for the creation of more states in their zone?

Do you know that the south east is the only zone with 5 states out of the minimum 6 for other zones even though it has one of the largest in population among all the zones?

Better shut up if you dont know what to post. angry

The poster offend you b4?
Take it easy and express your own thoughts or views without going through the corridor of insults.

Personally, i feel creation of new states is not an issue that should be hurriedly done.
A lot of things has to be taken into consideration. It should also be given  room for more
consultation among Nigerians. Truly, Nigeria runs the most expensive democracy in the world, meanwhile the dividends
are from from the reach of the populace.

Its a pity turning a debate on a national issue into a sectional sentiment.
Unfortunately you and I know that the south east you mentioned are
the poor set humans that practuce principled politics. Maybe thats why
your zone is still the way it was despite your population growth which
you havent used to your political fortune.
The south east does not have one voice politically. Even with the statusquo what
have you benefitted as a people beyond selfish god-fatherism. Your zone has
the worst road network in the country. Do you think having more states would help?
Check out the last set of state created and see what has happened. Apart from
looting, the staes havent developed beyond the so called Capitals.

Since when did the nigerians start replacing sectional sentiment with your so-called national debate? Common, it's been sentiment all the way.
Otherwise, throw more light on the purpose of federal character and quotasystem. Are those characters supposed to be patriotic or national sentiments? They are simply sectional sentiments. And if so, why not extend it to everybody instead of using it whenever it suits the rest of the zones?
Federal character and quotasystem is in constitution and must be followed accordingly whether things are going to get better or not. After all, this is nigeria.
As for poor state of the s/eastern roads, i cant argue with you on that; the only good surviving roads in other zones were built by PDTF which the s/east didnt benefit as was supposed.

The problem with Nigeria is the presidential system US style administration. Its too costly, we should revert to parliamentry style, whereby the Governors his commissioners and the President and his ministers are also law makers just like in Britain where the PM is also a member of the house of Commons.
That way 2 administrative duties have been merge together as one saving cost.

You have a serious problem of dysentery of the mouth.
My question is this. Can't you make a point without running your
mouth like a fowl that escape death by whiskers?

The south east does not have one voice politically.

Name one zone with one voice politically in Nigeria.

The South West did not even support OBJ in 1999 and yet he won an election.

Even Yar'adua's election was challenged all the way to the supreme court by 2 Northerners (Atiku & Buhari) with Buhari even coming from the same state with Yar'adua.

Sometimes, it seems we repeat what we may have been hearing without understanding the correctness or otherwise. Think before putting things down.
