Writers have been known to use 'As' and 'Ing'. Using 'As' and 'Ing' verbs to start a sentence shows you are telling the story instead of showing it. So, in a story of not more than 250 words try to avoid the use of 'As' and ' Ing' verbs. ' Hurry up my friend', Segun's mother shouted ahead of him. He looked up to see her turning into a path, and tried to hurry up since they were in a bush. This is the fifth time she would call up to him to hurry up, but he can't hurry up because he is tired, hungry, and needs sleep. The man he and his mother went to meet for help was not there or who knows, does not want to see them. ' Mum... I'm hungry', he shouted, stopped walking and sat on a stone. He stared at his mother who looked at him, smiled and came back to him. ' We will make it', she said and tried to pull him up. Just then, a big ghana-must-go bag landed on her bag. She moaned and fell. He quickly hurry to her, helped her up, and dusted her body. Cars were zooming off. They waited for some seconds, looked about, and then his mother went to the bag, opened it. ' Mo gbe ooo', she shouted and quickly covered her mouth. The bag was filled with one thousand naira notes. She closed the bag, lifted it and put it on her head. ' Follow me', she shouted, running with all of her strength. Even Segun ran after her, not knowing where the strenght came from. |
