A coalition of women and youth groups, including persons living with disabilities, under the aegis of Harbingers of Change for Buhari on Saturday in Abuja said government of the All Progressives Congress would address the plight of vulnerable groups in Nigeria better.

Representatives of the groups expressed their views during a rally organised in support of the presidential candidate of the APC, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

The rally was coordinated by the Buhari Support Organisation.

A medical outreach sponsored by the BSO to take care of vulnerable groups and the less privileged in the society was also organised in Kwaita-Tsoho and adjoining communities in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

The groups said youths and women had been abandoned for too long while the welfare of the persons living with disabilities in the society had been neglected.

National Coordinator of the coalition, Hajiya Hasiya Suleiman, said although the present administration had done its best, it was time for Nigerians to embrace change.

She said, “Buhari represents the change that vulnerable groups in the country had yearned for in the past 15 years of democracy in Nigeria.

“We remain committed to achieving our target of supporting Buhari till the results of the elections are announced. We have already mobilised and would keep sensitising vulnerable persons in Nigeria to adopt the new wave that would genuinely transform Nigeria.”

Suleiman said members of the group in the 774 local government areas of the country had mobilised resources to ensure that their destinies and future were safeguarded.

She however urged supporters of the Buhari presidency to eschew violence and avoid taking laws into their hands before, during and after the elections.

Also, the leader of the Virtuous Women International, a non-governmental organisation, Hajiya Fati Muhammed, urged women and persons with disabilities to support the APC ticket in the 2015 elections.

She said the group’s conviction about APC’s capacity to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians stemmed from its track record of achievements in some states of the federation.

She said Buhari might be old as touted by his opponents but that “his focus and integrity were some of the strong points that have stood him out among the other candidates.”

Muhammed said the group had mobilised women and disabled persons with ethno-religious backgrounds to support the Buhari candidature at the polls.
