Anambra State Government is partnering with the American Computer giant, Microsoft to programme Igbo language into computer software.

•Governor Peter Obi

Governor Peter Obi who disclosed this at the first Ofala celebration of the traditional ruler of Igboukwu, Igwe Martin Eze said this was part of efforts to promote the use of Igbo language and increase computer literacy among Ndigbo.

Governor Obi said Igbo language is not only compulsory in all secondary schools in the state but also a major language to be used in all social functions.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the high level of peace, love and understanding across the State and stressed the need for everybody to make conscious effort to sustain it.

The Governor explained that his administration will continue to work in every community in one sector or another as the State resources will continue to be used for the collective welfare of all.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Soludo noted that Igboukwu community is blessed with human and material resources and called on privileged individuals to support government efforts in provision of social amenities and infrastructural development as state government has limited resources. He said that the support was now needed as Anambra State was lucky now to have a Governor who was committed to the progress of the State.

The President General of the Town Union, Chief Ezeife said Governor Obi understood the concept of grassroots development as his programmes and projects were uplifting the lives of the common people.

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Eze said Governor Obi had not only restored peace, security and order in the State but had equally put smiles on the faces of the down trodden through people oriented projects and lay strong foundation for a brighter future for the up coming generation.

This would seriously be fascinating. Indigenous languages need not be forgotten, nor replaced by European languages. Even though outside languages are always good to know for obvious reasons (business, etc, ), I think for people to be able to truly understand themselves (ethnically), their tribal language would be very important to know. Hopefully more languages from Africa will be added! cool
