The war don dey get hotter oh, I fear no be ING we dey invite now or military........ In a strongly worded response to the allegations that it was being used by President Goodluck Jonathan to subvert the wishes of Nigerians to go to the polls, the Nigerian military has told former President Olusegun Obasanjo that his conduct of recent falls far below expected standard. It said the conduct of Obasanjo of recent has become an embarrassment to the military that he ought to represent. In the reaction posted on its blog: www.defenceinfo.mil.ng, the Defence Headquarters said Obasanjo should by now have realised that the military he left behind years back had developed far better than he left it.Obasanjo had last week criticised President Jonathan, accusing him of using the military to subvert the wishes of Nigerians to have the general elections as scheduled. He said the position of the military that it could not guarantee the security of lives and property during the elections was a shame to the military institution. He said if it was not possible for the military to crush the Boko Haram insurgency in six years, he does not see it doing it in six weeks. He said the plot was to use the Service Chiefs to achieve tenure extension for President Jonathan. But in its reaction on Monday, the military said: “Much as the military desires to respect the old General and his views, it has become necessary to point out that his conduct and unguarded utterances of late has fallen short of the standard of discipline expected of an individual who has had the privilege of service in the military and risen to the status of a General.“The behavior of retired General (Chief) Obasanjo has been so unbecoming and continues to constitute a serious embarrassment to the military before all who have reasonably and rightly adjudged the essence of military background in terms of the high value and standard it tends to contribute to statesmanship.“We feel constrained to remind the old General that the world has moved beyond that parochial and self-adulating reasoning and mindset which he seems stuck to.“Indeed, he needs to be told that by virtue of their better training, exposure, education, assessment and environment, the military personnel of today are already far beyond his level in their appreciation of democracy and its indispensability for the stable and prosperous society which Nigerians cherish.”The military advised Obasanjo to retrace his steps and follow the path of honour. The full statement reads: “The Defence Headquarters has noted the remarks of a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as reported in the media stating his views on perceived state of the armed forces and the roles being allegedly played by the military in the nation’s political process in recent times. The leadership and cross section of the military believes that the former President and retired General has every right to be interested in the actions and fate of the military. Hence, his views like many others will continue to be accorded the well-deserved attention. It is however noteworthy that most of his utterances lately indicate an attitude of playing to the gallery or indulging in politicization of serious national security or military affairs.“For instance, the comments credited to Chief Obasanjo alleging that the postponement of the General Elections was to enable President Jonathan to use the Service Chiefs to plot a tenure extension is to say the least, very surprising. It is surprising indeed, considering the fact that the retired General chose to ignore the clarification and emphatic assurances of non-partisanship of the military as declared in a DHQ statement on the position of the Armed Forces in the ongoing political activities. His motive as usual remains unknown but it is certainly less than noble or well intentioned. We dare say again that Chief Obasanjo’s assertions are false.“Much as the military desires to respect the old General and his views, it has become necessary to point out that his conduct and unguarded utterances of late has fallen short of the standard of discipline expected of an individual who has had the privilege of service in the military and risen to the status of a General. The behavior of retired General (Chief) Obasanjo has been so unbecoming and continues to constitute a serious embarrassment to the military before all who have reasonably and rightly adjudged the essence of military background in terms of the high value and standard it tends to contribute to statesmanship.“We feel constrained to remind the old General that the world has moved beyond that parochial and self-adulating reasoning and mindset which he seems stuck to. Indeed, he needs to be told that by virtue of their better training, exposure, education, assessment and environment, the military personnel of today are already far beyond his level in their appreciation of democracy and its indispensability for the stable and prosperous society which Nigerians cherish.“In this instance, the military wishes to inform the retired General, that the institution which he bequeathed to the nation has certainly developed beyond how he left it. The Nigerian military is now better placed to strive for the maintenance of the legacies and ethos of service, valour, subordination to constituted authorities, and nonpartisan commitment to duty and fatherland. It has to be restated that the military as an institution, is neither as inept in the discharge of its duties, nor is it being misused for political ends in the manner the retired General Obasanjo who was also a former President has possibly been made to believe.“Indeed, the system now strongly believes in Democracy as well as its structures and institutions to the extent that it will do nothing whatsoever to undermine or truncate the steady growth and development of the nation’s democracy. The military will remain professional as it keeps doing its best along with others to ensure adequate security and defence of the nation’s territorial integrity in this auspicious period in the country.“The Defence Headquarters will like to encourage Chief Obasanjo to be genuinely interested in the growth and sustenance of Nigeria’s democratic credentials. He is also enjoined to endeavor to improve in his understanding of intricate issues and try to encourage the military rather than continue with this tendency to indulge in imputation of ulterior motives to every effort, all for the purpose of discrediting well thought out policies or decisions related to the military’s roles in the polity. The support of all well-meaning elderly Nigerians remains vital in the onerous duty of working for the stability, defence, and peace of our country under duly constituted authorities in a democratic environment.” 62 Likes 2 Shares |

OBJ pls go and die. He is a serious nuisance to Nigerians. We have other past military head of states, they give useful suggestions and advice to the present government. But our egocentric OBJ's only contribution is to find fault where there is none and seeking attention everywhere like kim K and Amber. He is a big disgrace to the Army,PDP and Nigeria as a whole. Good they are attacking Obasanjo. This should serve as lesson for everyone. Obsanjo had the opportunity to do great things for this country but he squandered that opportunity. He brought Yar'Adua. Then Yar'Adua died and instead of him to amend his mistakes, he forced a militant on Nigerians as President. Jonathan is a militant at heart. I expect Obasanjo to die with this mess he brought upon himself. 47 Likes 1 Share |

The people at DHQ have been bought by Mr Ebele, every student of history knows the truth about Baba and no amount of slander against this man can rubbish his achievements. I'm not surprised though, these same people denied one of their own by claiming Buhari doesn't have his certificates with them. Awon abunu onijekuje. No dignity whatsoever. 162 Likes 9 Shares |

There is no longer an aspect of life in Nigeria that is sacred and respected. Politicians are now using religious leaders, military officers, elder statesmen and diplomatic envoys as errand boys. The only thing that is sacred now is Cash; I give you dollars and I take your soul...deal? 46 Likes 5 Shares |

Obasanjo is a pained man. He has lost everything and there's nothing left for him to hold on to if not to find a backdoor into the power house again. It's not unusual for old men to crave and cling on to power, especially African leaders, (Biya, Ghadaffi, Mugabe, et al). Obasanjo desperately needs power and that is his game plan. I can understand Jonathan has completely frustrated him by making him entirely irrelevant in PDP and weeded all his allies away and that is seriously affecting Obasanjo. "He whom the gods want to destroy, they first make him mad". A normal old Ex-leader should be a statesman and act as an advisory agent to the present leaders but Obasanjo can not do that because in the first place he has no Family to turn to. He is estranged with his children already after sleeping with his son's wife and the public disgrace meted out to him by his daughter. To add insult to injury, the "clueless" one has taught him a very important lesson at his old age. Jonathan has checkmated him using Kashamu Buruji to limit his influence on South-West PDP, (talk of dog fighting dog). And his old nemesis, Tony Anenih is Jonathan's henchman. Jonathan has taken ALL from him and completely dismantled his structures. No political power anymore, and more painful no family to soothe him. When Jonathan wins the election (it would hold and he will win!!!), he would have successfully pulled out the greatest coup and the real change in Nigeria's political history. The "clueless" one has stepped on lot of toes, looked at them eyeball to eyeball and dared them. Little wonder why the whole world is against him. On March 28 a new dawn will emerge in Nigeria's history. The final departure from the scene of the old men that has refused to let Nigeria be, with Obasanjo and Buhari leading the failed packs. APC can keep shouting change all they want and they can keep accusing PDP for 16 wasted years but the facts are barefaced, 80% or more of the erstwhile PDP members that destroyed Nigeria for years are now in the APC. The real change is Jonathan, the "clueless" one. 109 Likes 14 Shares |

"An old man gives good advice for no longer being able to set bad example" OBJ is not a saint but then he is not as clueless as GEJ. even despite his crimes, he still wants the best for his country and to me that's patriotism! The military is GEJ's mouth piece so I am not surprised. 37 Likes 3 Shares |
