Gov. Aliyu Sidelines Deputy, Makes Speaker Acting Governor As He Proceeds On Haj by bashydemy(m): 10:28am On Feb 19, 2015 |
The Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, took the rift between him and his deputy, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto, to another level on Wednesday. This followed the empowerment of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adamu Usman, to act in his place as he embarks on Umrah, the lesser hajj. Governor Aliyu, who sidelined his deputy, wrote a letter notifying the Assembly that he is travelling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj. He urged Usman to oversee his schedules as the acting governor. Aliyu, in a letter written to that effect, with reference No. GHNS/13/72, dated February 18, 2015, stated: βI wish to inform Mr. Speaker that I intend to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj between 19th and 26th February, 2015. βIn my absence, the Honourable Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adamu Usman, will oversee my schedules as the Acting Governor.β This is coming barely one week after Ibeto claimed his principal ordered him out of the State Executive Council meeting. It could be recalled that Ibeto had on January 19 this year dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, the party which brought him and Aliyu to power, for the All Progressives Congress. He made the declaration in Minna, the state capital, citing the injustice and humiliation he suffered from the ruling PDP. The Speaker is to resume as Acting Governor of Niger State on Thursday morning as he has already been given the itinerary of Governor Aliyu. http://theeagleonline.com.ng/gov-aliyu-sidelines-deputy-makes-speaker-acting-governor-as-he-proceeds-on-hajj/ This is unconstitutional. 1 Like

This is not in anyway surprising. It is only consistent with the culture of disruption of order and travesty of justice that has become the trademark of the PDP government. 1 Like |

that is blatant abuse of the constitution. In the absent of the governor, the constitution empowered his or her deputy to ACT in his stead with a letter forwarded to the Assembly to that effect. such was the case we encounter during the absent of President Yaradua. pdp had always rape the rule of law without an iota of regret shame on that party. |
