Can Community ownership of football club work in nigeria? My answer is YES! The reason are much but lets use Enyimba as a case study: The club (enyimba) has a 10000 registered members who are of different category in club(gold, silve r and bronze members). Gold members are to pay 500k pre season and members in this category are just 100, silver are to pay 100k per season, members are like 1000 then last last category bronze 8900 members are to pay the sum of 10k per season as annul subcription. That means the club will get 89m from bronze, 100m from silver, gold 50m and the total equal 239m frm subscription alone. Benefits of been a member can be in this format: gold are entitle to contest to become an excutive member , or member of the board for a duration of 3yrs, they are to sit on the VIP for the home games in the stadium for free, they get one home jersey, access to use the club domain on the internet e.g writer@enyimbaf c.com, free access to the club recretion ground with friends and business partners and so on. Silver: are to sit on the cover stand for a half fee of home games. Eg. They pay #500 instead of 1k for cover stand. They can vote for their executive in gold category to be elected, using domin name of the club, get stickers, banners of the club etc, and get a jersey. Silver: they can also vote, get employed in any of the club subsideries (space wont allow me explain how even if the members in this group are up to 10m can be employed cos the more members, the more business the club will embark upon), can use domain of the club, get latest jist of the club on their phone etc. So please lets surport community club cos it will reduce unemployment and fans will filled the stadia. Nice suggestion. I also want Enyimba to build a new 35,000 - 40,000 capacity stadium in Aba (or it's outskirts). The present township stadium doesn't befit their status as an elite Nigeria/African team. |

Over a period spanning a long decade of
formation of supportership in the world one
needs to evaluate logical, critical and analytical
the gain the effect it has on a particular goal or
objective in this world. This form of social
gathering forms a powerful tool that can be
used to solve problems that created divide in
the society and in particular community
relationship in one another. This form can easily
be classified as a tripod partnership that
comprises of the public (government), private
individuals or corporate organizations and
finally the people who are mainly classified as
the receiver and the backbone of any project in
the world. : Football thrives in diversity and
multi-cultural ethnicity. That diversity is
actually what is supposed to work to our
advantage. Plenty of flavour and colouration.
For one it is suicidal to expect that tax payers
money should be spent unaccounted for in
football.
This concept simply means the clubs being
owned by the people instead of Government.
Where by 10000 people pay 5k (five thousand )
membership fee The constitution of the club
should spell it clearly that everyone would have
equal share for 50yrs at least so that the
annual renewal would run and build funds for
the sustenance of the clubs over the years.
Every business without accountability and
financial integrity would never grow or gain
value and respect. With this idea of fan
ownership, is it possible to get grant/loan from
bank to expand or will it be done as normal
contribution. If a club has 10000 fans
committed to the cause in five years they
would increase income by 35% through
merchandise and adverts. A topical example of
community ownership is FC Barcelona and Real
Madrid. These are clubs owned by communities
not individual or group. We must agree that the
present system
of government patron is criminal, lacking in
financial best practice and corporate integrity. 1 Like |

The former LMC boss has called on communities where NPFL clubs are based to work towards taking over from the government for effectiveness. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the League Management Company (LMC), Nduka Irabor has challenged communities where NPFL clubs are based to see the teams in their enclave as theirs and strive to provide for their needs so that the state government could gradually hands off ownership of the teams. Besides MFM, ABS, FC Ifeanyiubah and Remo Stars all other NPFL clubs are owned by state government and this is contrary to the FIFA statutes which frown at government involvement in football. Irabor who was the immediate past Chairman of the LMC told the media that community ownership of football clubs would make the bond between the teams and the communities in which they reside stronger because the people in the area will see them as their own and work towards their progress. “I want to state that communities’ ownership of football clubs will help the league in Nigeria to thrive. The community will see the clubs as their own and they will do everything to keep the clubs intact,” Irabor told the media. “There are so many problems bedeviling teams that are owned by the State government and besides the fact that they have issues with funds and others the World football governing body does not support the arrangement too. “We must make our league to work and the best bet is communities’ ownership of the teams because it will enable the government to hands off ownership of teams.” |
